Doundounba, if you're interested, I'm interested! Do you think you'll get a copy of this lens?
I almost definitely will get this lens! It looks optically superb, and with aperture coupling and infinity to 2:1 really hits the sweet spot for me. It will actually probably open up my photography to more "telephoto" shots rather than strictly macro, since it will be much easier to shoot low magnification shots. (My usual setup is D-FA 100mm WR plus Raynox DCR-250 and that "bottoms out" at 0.8:1, so I need to remove the Raynox to shoot "non-macro", and usually I just don't bother.)

Possibly my buying this depends on the K-New specs/pricing/availability date...

Sorry for the late response - I haven't been coming here much as I also haven't been shooting much all summer. Pandemic and other personal reasons. Kind of feeling I've "plateau-ed" on my three main "stoke" fronts: finding new species just gets harder and harder, my shots aren't getting that much better, and even my level of "gear enjoyment" is dropping. Frankly, the K-3 feels pretty old by now. But this lens and the K-New (if/when it ever comes) may be just what the doctor ordered...

Totally hear you. It's been a tough year too, lot of photographers have lost steam this year (myself included.) New gear is a good way to boost interest, hope you get ahold of this and/or the k-new. I'd like to get a k-new, though maybe not for a bit... $$$

Unfortunately from the 14th I hope this one does get a bit of interest and go into production:

Thank you for your email.

We have no planning on developing the 100mm in Pentax mount in the coming year.

We would report your suggestion to our product team for future development.

Warm Regards,

Laowa Team

Well, that's not what they said earlier. Very disappointing. I think many on PF had already pencilled this in as a definite buy.

Seriously? Darn, I was thinking of getting a macro-er macro (I only have a 1:2) and this looked like a good foray into the small world...

Indeed. I had also gotten "It's coming." from the German importer - having seen the prototype in the video made me hopeful. It definitely seems to be the best apochromatically corrected 100mm-ish macro out there, which would have been available for Pentax, and with my recent interest in higher than 1:1 magnification, it's unique in versatility. So I guess I should be happier about having bought the 150mm IRIX 'as an interim'. It's much better corrected than the DFA100WR, about 100mm at 1:1 (due to internal focus), but fairly big and heavy and doesn't work with the DA 1.4x TC.

Very disappointing news. This lens was definitely on my "to buy" list. Maybe I'll look into the IRIX 150mm.

I love my Pentax equipment but I have to say the lack of third party lens support is really starting to make me think hard about other systems.

Well, there are two conflicting replies regarding that availability.

For the record, the Canadian distributor said some time ago that the release was "planned at some point".

I understand (and agree with) what you mean regarding third party. We do have several third party manufacturers still offering beautiful lenses, such as Laowa (just think about the 60mm 2x macro and the 12mm FF zero-D), Rokinon / Samyang, etc. Some of these are actually superb and, in many case, the presence of mechanical aperture coupling on Pentax cameras means taht these third-party lenses offer automatic aperture control, something NOT available on other mounts, so in these cases we have it good.

Have a quick check on BH Photo for the user reviews for Laowa 60mm f2.8 where the lens mount data is showed. Among 46 user reviews, we have 21 from Canon , 19 from Nikon, 5 from Pentax, 1 from Sony A. It can serve as a rough proxy to show how popular Laowa's macro lens relatively across different mounts. Apparently the Canon/Nikon's base number is much larger than Pentax (which assumed to be 10x or even higher), Laowa lenses did make sale and are popular among Pentaxians.

the aperture is linked to the body to control the aperture.

Excellent. I wouldn't even consider it without that.
