New gear on Photokina

Hi Folks,

My trusted source told me that we could expect some announcements targeting Photokina this year. I don't want to reveal everything I know yet, but according to my information we will see two new products from Ricoh. Important thing is that none of them is a DSLR, rather a consequence of a recent Ricoh activity in some areas.

Could You guess what it is?

As this is the Pentax News and Rumors forum, unless some news or a rumor is mentioned, this thread will be moved to General Photography.

Photokina will be twice in a very near time. Both in Cologne and on september 26-29th 2018 and may 8-11th 2019. So there will be some new gear anyway.

Yes, we know. A few lenses on the roadmap that have yet to materialize. Perhaps an announcement of some hybridized EVIL camera.

You should know by now that statement isn't original. If you know something spill it, being coy about it is just annoying - we are going to find out eventually.

A Binaural microphone head for the Theta VR? A re-design and expansion of the FA limited line of lenses? An announcement of a new nanotech lens coating which is every bit as obscure as to what it actually does as Aero Bright? A pair of weather resistant hiking shoes with the Pentax logo on the tread*? A polaroid camera? A fully articulated remote controllable Hatsune Miku doll with big anime eyes that are actually cameras that hook up to a VR headset - an Anime styled drone? I don't know, I'm just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks: Which, coincidentally, is the exact impression I get of the methods employed by pentax's marketing department.

* I would probably buy a pair.

No DSLR at Photokina? That means no K-3 successsor this year. Some folk will be put out, if that’s true.

I’m with Digitalis: this “can you guess what I know” stuff is annoying.

The K-70 was introduced june eight. Two years ago, so maybe it will get a successor/refresh. (But Ricoh better don't because right now it is looking a very good alternative for the KP already). Mid level bodies are usually announced late spring, so not at Photokina. What will be announced? We'll see. The D FA* 50 1.4 and the new 11-18mm F2.8 zoom don't count. We've already seen them at cp+.

hahaha

That is a nice way of responding to those kind of self-important posts. Good for you.

I'd be surprised if the K-3 II replacement isn't even announced (on paper) in some form by Photokina. Usually there is a run up between announcement and actual product on shelves by months no? If so then that would mean the K-3 II successor is scheduled for much further off in the future.

That said does this mean they are focusing (no pun intended) on more lens releases for Full Frame? I think, beyond the primes already mentioned, they need that mid range FF zoom on the roadmap. Especially if it is a longer counterpart to the 28-105 f/variable lens.

Me too. I was taking pictures in a canyon in March and my gear didn't mind the rain. But my feet got wet and I ended up getting huge blisters.

A surprise announcement of a new modern set of DFA WR LTD's with QS focus. Ditch the aperture ring. Make the DA21 a true FF lenses after the M20 ƒ4 then this UW DA lens covers both FF and APS-C.

And of course the long awaited LXD and MXD interchangeable viewfinder systems. Bringing the best of both OVF and Mirrorless in a one body system.
