The article says "Very heavy because of the new ultrasonic drive" ..... The motor must be unusually large - I wonder if they're trying to provide enough torque to give faster focusing.

It might be heavy because of the lens elements, not the motor. It takes a 72mm filter.

Very nice.

I wonder if I'll ever have access to a copy for this kind of thread.
35mm find that prime. - PentaxForums.com

What I want to know about this lens, is how does it stack up to what I own.

For the K-1 that would be
FA 50 1.7, FA 50 macro, FA 35-80 and DFA 28-105.

Throw in the 18-135 and tamron 17-50 for APS-c.

I want to do a spread like the above, so I can evaluate exactly what I'd be getting buying this lens in terms of improvement over what i have now. I do own an SMC 50 1.4 but... it causes boredom.

With Pentax upping their lens design criteria, how do I know my K-1 can even take advantage of what ever it's magical properties are. Maybe you'll have to have an 80 MP FF sensor to even take advantage of what it has to offer. After all it is designed to meet future needs to some extent.

Definitely an interesting lens. Can't wait for it and the 11-18 to come out.

If for no other reason just to stop those who have their hearts set on it from totally losing it.

Definitely getting this one! But the level of detail shared in this review must mean that the official announcement is just about to drop...

That's the kind of optics that reach perfection. DPReview aren't going to test it on the K1 II, in case it would put other brands to shame.

I'm impressed so far. This is going to be a great lens for portraits. Bokeh is excellent.

"Everything of this lens is developed and patented by Pentax and Pentax produced " - worth keeping this on your PC's clipboard - I'm sure it will have to be quoted time and time again. And again.
