I like that out of focus light source "bokeh balls" aren't hard edged or ringed.

Looks wonderful for the folks that can really use this lens and get the most out of it. Maybe folks stepping up from their DA*55's to this lens would want to cut me a deal on their old hardware!

I don't get it ?
Historically the Tak's and Pentax 50/1.4 are some of the finest lenses made. What's the deal with a lens the size of a soda can ??

Because those optical designs are 40-50+ years old and don't live up to the standards of content creators for modern e-comm and social media.

Were, not are. Historically, as in many decades ago.

Now they aren't; just like the Spotmatic isn't cutting edge.

Other than the focal length I would like to see how the new DFA*50/1.4 compares to the DA*55/1.4 lens.

This is almost funny. It's like he's missed a bunch of forum noise from the last year and a half.

Wow, stunning bokeh! A truly highly corrected lens! Totally smooth. Fluffy, clowdy. No rings nor color shifts. Can't wait to see more: starbursts, night and astrophotography.

Now for the rant:
Can't believe there's just one lazy nightime shot. That shot in the alley would've been so much better at night with all the glowing signs… oh well. This beast screams "take me out at night in the rain"! Why can't I get a pre-release copy to review?

I heard it was a Soligar design.

Looks good. Creamy bokeh. Specular highlights handled well. Decent bokeh balls. Handles foliage/branches without looking busy. Sharp wide-open, corner to corner sharp stopped down.
Lateral CA and longitudinal CA should be well controlled, although we don't know how processed these images are.
Presumably fast AF.

In other words everything a Pro would want in a modern fast fifty.

Looking forward to seeing this go head to head with the Sigma and Zeiss. If it stacks up well it could create some much needed buzz around the brand.

Will I be buying? No, too big, heavy and expensive for my personal needs. YMMV

I don't need it, because I have so many 50 lenses and DA 55 works really well on FF cameras. F50/1.4 is not bad at all.
But I want it...
