This is true. I figure, I will have another thousand in glass with these two lenses and that might be a hair low. I will take a wait and see approach on the DFA 85 * and once the DA 300 * is revised in a million years buy that one too. In the meantime bring on the DFA 50 * and DA 11-18 *!

You could win the K1 in this giveaway, then 15-30, 24-70, 70-200 and you're set!
Ahhh as a crop shooter I don’t want the huge 15-30. It is a sweet lens but I will not put up with the size for that range. The 11-18 will be perfect!

WOW, seeing the size of this new 50mm f1.4 I am wondering just how big the 85mm F1.4 will be, gets out dumbbells, regards Ian
Will not be small, given the size of the DFA 70-200 * and how big the new 50 appears I am positive it isn’t going to be a little lens.

The sad thing is, I have avoided the big boy K1 and 150-450 thus far!
Definitely get the big boy! At the current price, the K-1 is a steal and such fun to work with.

I would be shocked if its under $1200. Next bidder?
I would expect an introduction price of $1680 or thereabouts.

For the D FA* 50/1.4, I would expect $1400 at launch.

Commerce not charity, sadly, Mikey.

But it's K-mount, you have other UWA choices in the sub-$1000 market.

My guess would have been that it would sell in the 800 to 850 range. Release price might be higher, but the other DA * lenses, except the DA *60-250 are under 1000 and the 60-250 is 1100.

Asked, then answered.

If you have to stare at an image from 4 inches away for a half hour to draw a conclusion as to whether or not you like it, you don't know anything about art.

Would anyone have noticed Mona Lisa's smile if they were checking for how detailed her eyelashes were?
You asked so nicely

72-77mm step-up rings don't cost much. I'll be getting one.
And now put your lens shade over a 77mm filter on a 72mm diameter lens :-)

The lens must perform extraordinarily otherwise the wait would not be worth it.

The new AF will be most interesting, although a large aperture prime below 200mm is typically not focussing super fast. Really fast foucssing lenses would be a future treat. DA*200/300 could do with a speed update... If you carefully read the much disliked DPR comments in the K1 II review, they mention that the traking of the camera is probably faster than before, but the lens did not keep up (D-FA* 70-200).

Why would I do that?

I only use a filter on the rare occasions it might improve the image I'm wanting to make, and with a lens this size that means I will use my Lee 150 system, which basically acts as a hood anyway. So I would be stacking the 72-77 ring with my 77-82 ring and the 82mm Lee adaptor.

The other 95% of the time I would use the OEM hood.

It might be as cheap as that in five years. The other DA* zooms have been on the market for a decade.

Yes, that was my thought. Street price will drop very quickly as seller inventories ramp up.

I figure between both of these lenses my pockets will be about 2,000 to 2,500 dollars lighter. I am gearing up the savings now.

I had a chance to read the review that was kindly posted under google cache and I can feel my pocket getting lighter.

I suspect that there may be used 11-8s on the market in fairly short order when people go out and find out that 11mm is Really, really wide! If the cash isn't there when they hit the shelves it may save me a dollar or two hundred. I am still looking at buying new though.

Was there a glut of little-used DA 12-24's or Sigma 10-20's not long after those lenses hit the market?

To me, the DA*11-18 has "real estate photography side hustle" written all over it, assuming I had the time to get into that, and I really don't...

I have no idea on availability of used 12-24s shortly after release. I have only been shooting a year as of tomorrow, so I have no recollection of things I had no reason to care about. If there aren't many lightly used 11-18s hitting the market, I will just go with new from our links to the big stores in NYC.

If I had to do real estate photography for a living I think I'll consider it, but would probably want a 8-16mm as well, because there have been times when I've felt too long even with a 10-20mm

Maybe just skip this then? I've not done paid real estate photog work; I do feel like something like what this lens promises and even my old K-5 II would be a great pair for that kind of thing.
