Consequently I bet the current wishful thinking price of the Tokina rebadged lens will drop quickly to around $800 street price, then it would be balanced with the Pentax price.
except for the Pentaxians using k-mount not having this cheaper option.

And all the sad little Canikons don't have a native 1st party option.

Pentaxians are on the way better side, especially now that the price of the Tokina rebadge is still ridiculously high.

But yeah, I know we'll have whiners all along, regardless of the superior option.

For Canon there is for almost the same money the 50mm/f1.2 lens. Or if you go mirrorless the rf-mount brings a 50mm/f1.2 for 2539 euro.....

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. The poor Canonians only have a 1350 EUR 50L with the optical performance of a 200 EUR FA 50 and an autofocus slower than the slowest Pentax lens which also has serious non-correctable focus issues on some of their bodies.

Or they have to pay +1340 EUR premium (so you can get 2x Pentax DFA* for the price of one Canon) for 0.4 more stops light in a lens which isn't even internal focusing.

Life clearly is good as Pentax user.

Go tell us about your most recent top line 50mm lens that you own and use and show some images. Or are you just trolling here?

In The Netherlands we don't have trolls, we have Laven.
laven - Google Search

I was very surprised about the price for the rf-mount lens.....

Canon and Nikon can get a similar lens, but it's not the same. It will have different coatings, barrel finish, and critically won't be stabilized. Also, it bothers me with third party lenses that there's no one company to hold accountable if the lens doesn't work well with the camera now or after a future firmware update. I think Pentax users are getting the better deal here.

The price difference is small enough to be covered by a mere discount.

The Tokina opera 50mm f/1.4 FF was just announced and its optical formula and autofocus motor are indeed the same as those of the HD Pentax-D FA★ 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW.

Tokina - opera 50mm F1.4 FF
Optical formula... coatings, or just the picture of the lens elements?

Ps: I'm sure they're both nice, but if I was buying new, I'd buy the pentax, thanks!
