As a Ricoh Imaging designed lens, yes but the Tamron designed 15-30mm f/2.8 and 24-70mm f/2.8 also use ring-type motors.

I was thinking that too. One lens and one camera for K-mount this year. Photokina will tell......

1200 USD isn't bad but I wish it was a little bit cheaper. Can't wait for a proper review.
The quickest way for me to get this would be to sell my 24-70 but it's such a versatile lens that it might be a bad idea to let it go for this new 50.

They, er, clearly want to appeal to the type of customer who doesn't need this lens...

Elitism much? I put quite a lot of my favourite images on Facebook.
How many people actually *need* this lens anyway?

Nothing to do with Facebook, I just don't think the images there justify the use of a premium quality lens

The images I upload to Facebook are just as good (2048 on the long side) as 90% of the ones I put up on Flickr.

sorry - we're talking at cross purposes here - I was referring only to the images on the link JPT posted - should have made it clearer.

If we *need" this lens or not, is often irrelevant.
I've unfortunately kept my K-1 on the desk while browsing this forum, and it read this:

The last thought I had was how perfectly balanced the K-1 body and DFA 50 are in terms weight and also the seamless feel of the design and materials. They just feel like they are made to be together. It doesnít really matter if you need this lens or not. If you have a K-1, you should let it be with this lens. You have no right to stand in the way of itís happiness.
Now it's threatening me to strangle with the strap if I don't buy the lens.

Don't worry about this. The K1 has no hands.. But what it can do is use it's WiFi to access your finances and hold them hostage until you purchase it. Pentax cameras find physical violence of all sorts abhorrent. Psychological warfare is however; not out of the question.

Gee, I see what you mean ... what did that guy do previously to be chosen as one of the lens' beta testers?

My mandarin isn't very good...and google translate makes a mess of it too. I guess I'll have to wait for a review in English with the version that will go to market.
But itís a good review worth reading.

Cat's out of the bag - now you have hit upon the real reason why there was a WiFi tweak as part of the K1 mark II upgrade!
