So Pentax has the boxes silver (new!), Nikon gold, Canon white and red, Sony? I have never seen a Sony, are they so rare?

IMO, Ricoh's boxes looked sort of...cheap and out of date. Olympus' look more luxurious.

?

Struggling to see the point, since we're interested in their contents, but even then ...

Oh I mean the black ones like this

Ricoh's are plain gray with a lens/body photo pasted on it, no matter what level of the product is.
Olympus's high-end products are in well-designed boxes.
I think the Olympus way is worth considering for Pentax star series.

Quite a few of them - 72 at a minimum, but I'd guess well over 100.

I don't realy care about the box, but this one looks like reinforced cardbox, used for DSLR packaging rather than for lenses. Most lenses used to be packed in thin outer silver box, and then plain cardboard inner box. Those looks diffrent.

Yes, that's what I was referring to. A stack at least 6 boxes high, 6 long, 2 deep.

And they say they are all pre-ordered and going to be shipped to customers this afternoon. They normally keep one to do a review/samples, but this time they've got to send them all out, so the review will have to wait.

If this is what they have allocated to one specialist store in Osaka, I wonder how many they are shipping to the big retailers like Bic and Yodobashi. Anyway, I think it's fair to say they are producing these in the hundreds, if not a few thousand.

Not sure how you get 35. As Kunzite says, 6 high by 6 deep by 2 wide is at least 72.

Ricoh hasn't used black boxes for quite some time. They may still have some old stock in black boxes but when I bought a K-1 a couple of years ago it came in a gray/silver box.
