Does it offer so much advantage over the da*55 on aps-c to brake the bank for it?
For some, it won't be a case of breaking the bank... It'll appeal to those that want the best image quality (regardless of sensor format) and are willing to pay a premium for that.

As for the advantage over the DA*55 on APS-C, we'll need someone with a Pentax camera and access to both lenses to test them side by side, as @Wheatfield has done with the FA50/1.4...

If you look at all the cheap chinese parts Nikon lenses use, one probably shouldnt worry too much:
Buy nikon lens motor and get free shipping on AliExpress.com
If it helps Nikon and other manufacturers build speedy drives at acceptable cost, why not buy it from Chinese engineers? Nikon probaly simply downsized / fired the departments for those areas in the last years when business collapsed and now they buy from externals. Makes a lot of business sense.
If you aren't careful, outsourcing can 'bite you' down the road, as apparently happened with Pentax and the aperture control solenoid used in K-30/50.

I wonder how that works out, since the da*55 is excellent on aps-c.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. My prediction is that we'll notice better performance from the D FA50/1.4 in terms of sharpness (wide open, at least) and chromatic aberrations, and some improvement in AF speed - plus, of course, it shouldn't be prone to AF motor problems since it doesn't use the old SDM.

It will depend on the individual photographer's needs and expectations as to whether the new lens is worth the premium. For me, it would be overkill... I'm perfectly happy with my old FA50/1.4. But I can see why, for some, the D FA50/1.4 is worth paying out for.

Outstanding! Please shoot some images with it on your KP after you get it settled in on your K-1. I am intrigued and very impressed by this lens.

Woohoo! You must be very excited! Looking forward to seeing your example shots... Those we've seen so far would suggest this is a monster of a lens, from wide open to minimum aperture and everywhere in between...

Can't take credit for this - it was my good wife with her KP..

DFA* 50 1.4 seems to work on the KP!
