I guess we'll have to wait and see. My prediction is that we'll notice better performance from the D FA50/1.4 in terms of sharpness (wide open, at least) and chromatic aberrations, and some improvement in AF speed - plus, of course, it shouldn't be prone to AF motor problems since it doesn't use the old SDM.
It will depend on the individual photographer's needs and expectations as to whether the new lens is worth the premium. For me, it would be overkill... I'm perfectly happy with my old FA50/1.4. But I can see why, for some, the D FA50/1.4 is worth paying out for.
