Do we have any idea how many of these were sold yet? The last 4 digits of my serial place my lens it in the 2000 range, and I"m wondering where the latest is at. Imagine if Ricoh sells 4000-5000 copies at 1200 = $4.8m to $6m in revenue. Not bad for them.

Not saying you shouldn't go with Darktable, but I think you can keep using Lightroom 6 without any problem for quite awhile.

This is good to know! I shoot RAW+ with DNG format, so no changes there. I also have the newest ACR installed, so I'll have to take a look at doing that.

Mine is 1676.

Don’t forget RIcoh Imaging doesn’t get the entire $1,200. The Distributor takes some of that (even if the Distributor is owned by Ricoh Imaging) and the Retailer takes some more of it. My guess is they get 60% of retail price at the factory dock, and they pay for components out of that. All-in, I’d be surprised if they turn a direct profit on this lens.

I have it in my mind (i.e. I think I read a reply here from one of the viral posters) the initial production run was planned for 3,000 Units. If correct (BIG if) they blew that out of the water before it was even released.

So far there seem to be fewer than ten owners on the Forum.

It took the first generation SDM lenses 10 years to drop in price. They were at the highest they've ever been year ago when my DA*60-250 was selling for a higher price than Paid for it. If the 60-250 is any indication, it will go up before it goes down. Typically, the price doesn't fall on lenses until a new generation is released. These lenses will be close to this price for at least 5 or 6 years, probably more.

With 2 thousand active participants out of 78,000 members, it goes without saying, even among registered users 2 out of 78 is 2.5%.

Just counting non-active forum users, if 10 is 2.5% there are 400 forum umembers with the lens, If franc has #2000 x 40, assuming they are all sold and there are back orders that would be 80,000. If you start guessing based on the number of forum users that have them, you aren't going to get accurate information. There are simply too many unknown factors. Basically, if Pentax doesn't tell us, we will never know. And Pentax never releases actual sales figures. Nor does anyone else.

And we know that the home market is the biggest, and we have few Japanese members, for obvious reasons

It is much better than the Sigma according to their Rep - a Category Killer - and it will be at or above $1,200 USD for years. It will stay in tight supply for a long time.

It's in stock at SRS in the UK, but initial stocks from most of the dealers were quickly depleted. I imagine SRS is on its second shipment... Perhaps it's the same with the Netherlands suppliers, or maybe it's just not a region of high demand for Pentax gear...

Stock is being refilled. Anyway, it's no secret that Ricoh Imaging won't sell huge volumes to Pentax users due to the limited user base. However, even if small sales from Tokina into Canon and Nikon mount, it's going to contribute significantly relative to Pentax quantities.

Sweet words to hear - helps with just buying it versus waiting for a "deal".

That's about as good a review as anyone could wish for.

Maybe Pentax isn't doomed after all....

hmmmm... 10% of my images are between 45mm and 55mm. That's pretty high percentage. The highest for any one FL range is 12% I can actually make a pretty good argument I would make good use of this lens. But I can I get an allocation from the House Appropriations Committee?
