I guess in few days we'll see more firmware updates. There will be probably for K3II, maybe K1 II (but that might be already there), probably also K70 and KS2, maybe KS1.
But I wander about oldest of KAF4 enabled cameras - K50? It received KAF4 support, so maybe it will receive also patch for this new lens? Yet it is quite old camera, so it maybe it is abandoned? We'll see in few days i think.

Not that it matters much for me. Yes, i have K50, but i will not buy this 50 lens... but still, it's my camera and i wander if it's still supported.

Yes, it has all previous versions included.
Still those files are quite big as just "lens lookup table" containers.

Having never updated firmware on my cameras, can I just update my K1 for this firmware version without having gone through the previous updates? I am assuming this is a cumulative update rather than incremental? Thanks!

As posted at the top of the thread - K1 - * When this update is done, the contents of version 1.43 and earlier will be also updated.

Concerning the K-1 Mark II, I could agree with you: at the time of its announcement pre-series copies of the HD Pentax-D FA★ 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW were in the hands of testers so one could imagine that the K-1 Mark II's firmware includes the appropriate code lines.

Concerning the K-3 II, I don't buy that.

I am convinced that further D FA★ 50mm-related firmware updates will soon be published: K-1 Mark II possibly, K-3 II definitely, may be K-S1, K-S2 and K-70 too.

The HD Pentax-D FA★ 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW is a KAF4 lens (= with an electromagnetic diaphragm control system). The K-5, K-5 II and K-5 IIs don't work with such lenses.

Thanks for the clarification

Maybe Ricoh doesn't think many owners of the consumer level crop bodies will be buying a prosumer level full-frame * lens, thus no updates (as of yet) for the K-50, K-70, K-S1 and K-S2. Arguably the KP lacking dual card slots and lower capacity battery is not prosumer but it is still a slight step up from the K-70

That is strange. When an update includes a new lens models, it is to provide lens correction and an updated lens lookup table at minimum. The K-1II does not surprise me. The K-3II on the other hand...
I'm puzzled too. The last firmware update for the K-3ii was August 2016. The K-1 was updated at the same time. (Both for KAF4 support).

Yet since then, the K-1 was had a number of extra updates, while the K-3ii hasn't. So what is different about the K-3ii?

I'm speculating: does the latest lens update to the K-1 only matter because it is an FF camera? (But then, why updates to the K-3 and K-P?)

Probably we will see update for those in a few days Not so sure about K-50 but probably also. It was very popular camera and there is still plenty of them in the field.

Because they contain the whole firmware.

Dear Ricoh/Pentax, please give the user community more detail than this old chestnut.
I agree. What does "Improved stability for general performance" actually mean? Would be nice to have a benchmark for reference.

I doubt if we will ever get an exact definition. It is a catchall similar to what most of the other brands use.

Here's Nikon:

Nikon | Download center | D750 Firmware

And perhaps the benchmark to aim for Fuji:

FUJIFILM X-T2 | features - Firmware Ver.4.00 | Fujifilm Global

Seems like low hanging fruit to write a few lines of concise English detailing specific fixes/enhancements.

Just saying....

Pentax lists specific fixes and enhancements in this same way. What it and others often do not do is list fixes that would probably not be meaningful to most users such as perhaps "fixed small memory leak in...." Meaningful to the programners but perhaps just a bit scary to ordinary users. Your examples just leave out the generic language which means "We fixed some code to make things run more smoothly." Your Nikon and Fuji examples just omit the generic language. No real difference. Sony is similar to the Pentax practice of letting you know they did more but not worth detailing.
