I agree. What does "Improved stability for general performance" actually mean? Would be nice to have a benchmark for reference.
It means that the dev team had several bug fixes that were incorporated into this release. Most (all?) were probably non-fatal and most would mean nothing to us if the details were given. (I would imagine that bug titles alone might generate general panic if known.)

K-3 ii

This opens up my hope that the K-3 II will get future updates.

Does the K-3ii need updates at the moment?

I've been wondering about the lack of updates for a while, but I don't know what it could use, if anything.

I would just enjoy seeing that it is still supported despite the body being discontinued.

Huh? I tried downloading the K-3 (v.1.40) firmware to my computer, but it stalled at 94% with a file size of 14,052 KB. It also said 13.0 of 13.7 Mb downloaded. I was afraid to try to extract and attempt to upgrade it. Has anybody else had this problem?

Failed downloads happen all the time. Re-download the file.

The zip file should have basic CRC and you should get an error message when you extract the file if it is incomplete or corrupt.

FWIW I just tried downloading it from Japan. It failed on me three times but eventually I got the entire file. Firefox can resume incomplete downloads. The server is probably busy and the downloads are timing out.

Yes, you're probably right...I'll give it another try later on.

Having never updated firmware on my cameras, can I just update my K1 for this firmware version without having gone through the previous updates? I am assuming this is a cumulative update rather than incremental? Thanks!
Yes you can. The most recent update includes all previous improvements as Pentax officially announces:
"*When this update is done, the contents of version 1.43 and earlier will be also updated."

Smoothest yet

I did my K-3 firmware update last night and it was the smoothest update of the K-3 updates I've done.

Did all three of mine and everything seems in order. Doesn't feel any different right away. Perhaps after a while something might be more noticeable.

BTW any news about the potential K-3 mk3?
