There are a lot of different patents which will be only patents.
But it would be silly to launch a 'new' 16-50 with only updated coatings and a new focus motor if you have a patent for a completely new 16-50 with potentially stellar optical performance.

May depend on the pricing. They may need a $800 lens more than a $1600 lens - or maybe they could provide both.

Instead of waiting for K3III, GRIII or what ever, I made another choice couple of days ago and bought a bicycle (GT Grade).
I think it was better and maybe even more productive way to use those euros. K3 is still more than adequate for my needs.

Strange...I was thinking of either saving my cash for the GR III or spending it on replacing my 20 year old bicycle. I decided the other way. Now I just need them to announce it already...

I guess the question is how big an announcement would be required to think that the OP was right?

A GR and a lens or two? Does it need a new k mount body? Honestly, I would just be happy if Ricoh gives some solid hints about what is coming down the line and when, even if it isn't ready to release yet.
My name's Carl. I like to keep it personal. .

To me, a GR successor warrants "newsworthy". Anything more than that is icing, anything less than that isn't an announcement for me and yeah I won't be reporting anything coming from my source in the future if that happens.

All agree, say "aye".

But then they might drop the 'star' designation? I guess the D-FA* 50 has set a new standard for what a 'star' lens should be, so that the 16-50 wouldn't be up to it even with new coatings and a new focus motor?

The current DA* 16-50 f/2.8 ED AL (IF) is $799 at Pentax. I very strongly believe they need lenses in that price category {or lower} - I don't care what they call them - otherwise they will lose sales {and badly needed revenue} to Sigma, and they might even lose a few users permanently.

Well, I guess you have still an option to choose either one I've been interested of GRIII as well but decided to wait for some time before making any changes to my camera gear.

I will send my curriculum vitae to RICOH in Japan as "Product Planning Manager", obviously I will include this list
Well, if you could bring these 9 different things to reality you might want to revise the PPM to just M(magician!)

Hi Andrea

Another recap of what I'm expecting from the Photokina:
1- The mockup of the two RCs compatible with Full Frame
2- An almost ready DA* 11-18
3- Reworked DA* 16-50 (CA fixed) and DA* 50-135 (ring SDM)
4- The mockup of the D-FA* 85
5- The mockup of the D-FA 70-200 f/4
6- A new 645 with full frame MF sensor
7- The mockup of a new 645 lens, I think a 45-85mm zoom to match the new big sensor
8- An APS-C flagship camera
9- The new GR
Same Andrea from the rumor sites ? I hope so!!!

This would be an amazing set list. I'd be happy with GR and new APS-C flagship.

I say Nay......keep on reporting from your source. Don't go clamming up because of a bit of negativity from a few!!

I like my DA 20-40 ltd in that respect but not nearly that wide. I already pointed out that the 17-70 f/4 is lovely but not 16 nor 2.8. I like my DA 15 - but not a zoom and not 2.8 and so the list goes on. It is a lens that can be improved that's all I'm saying.
I exchanged my DA20-40 for FA31, because it had awful AF accuracy and it was unreal to tweak it. The service said that it was OK, but it was the worst lens I ever had in terms of AF. There was huge dependence on aperture and focal length.

But it was very sharp. The sharpness like a prime. Anyway, I decided not to play lottery and asked Pentax dealer to exchange lens for FA31.

My da20-40 was excellent. Sharp and good focusing from 20 to 40. Still sold it then, because after a few months I looked at the images I took with it. Over 80% of them where taken at 30mm. I already had the 31mm, so no sense in taking the zoom.
