I'm at the Ricoh's stand - which is disappointingly smaller. The GR III is displayed under glass but that's all new.
I want my money back

OTOH I've seen Mr. Takashi Arai (too scared to approach him, lol). Adam, please make sure to ask all the righr questions.
Enjoy the exhibition my friend! Ask Mr. Takashi Arai to include you as a K-3III tester!

Lol. I'm too concerned with suddenly approaching a typically reserved Japanese in a typical friendly Romanian way - would that be rude?

Anyone else here? Let's go for a drink, there's nothing to see.

Do they not even have a working DA*11-18? Seems they're not taking Photokina very seriously - maybe their Japan-centredness showing?

No. They're barely present.

That stand looks like a bit of a token presence - I suppose that's better than no presence, and probably realistic - I just hope we're not kidding ourselves that they are keeping their powder dry for CP+ when the current furore of MILC etc releases has maybe died down - every bit of encouragement that something on the way seems to fizzle into nothing - it's better not to hope. Which isn't to say that you can't take great pictures with existing equipment, but the people who know that are getting older...

Edit - token presence confirmed by Kunzite - maybe it is time to talk to Mr. Takashi Arai - looks like he might be at a loose end and would welcome someone to talk to

Just don't give him neck slap or high five to the forehead and it should be ok...

@Kunzite Thank you for your report!

No HD Pentax-DA★ 11-18mm f/2.8 ED DC AW, even under glass?

Which bodies are they showcasing? KP, K-1 II and 645Z most certainly but what about K-70 and K-3 II?

No 11-28mm. I didn't look after the cameras, they had the 645z, K-1 ii and KP and I think the K-70 too - I'll see later about the k-3.

The Tokina Opera is very similar to the Pentax - and made in Japan.

Thank you. Re. Tokina opera, made in Japan means that at least the final assembly is done by Tokina.

According to Dpreview the lens "has been redesigned. The new lens features six elements in four groups, including two aspheres. The GR/II's lens was made up of seven elements in five groups, also including two aspherical elements." Weĺl see in 2019 what impact will it have on the sharpness the GR IIŽlens was known for.

When I purchased my ME/SE in 1979 and when I purchased my Super Program in 1983 they were a leading brand - readily available in stores and regularly reported on in the press. I switched to Canon in 1995 because I liked their AF better, and when I returned to Pretax in 2015, I noticed how much the brand had "sagged".

The original GRII came out in 2015, they have had 3 years and still cannot complete a "street camera" or whatever they bill it as.... its a typical pocket camera at best, they may have "sagged" in 2015 but in 2018 they have completely "sacked out"<<< at least they completed that. Instead of spending money to show up at Photokina with this joke of the camera world, that money should have been spent on producing something worthwhile
