I was at the Photokina and had the chance to try the K-m out. I've just played around with it a bit, nothing scientific. Coming from a K20D, I liked its size and weight! It is pretty fast, the AF is one of the fastest I have seen from Pentax. No hunting or double-check, just a quick and firm AF lock. Perfect! I also like its responsiveness (my main gripe with the K100D Super which I also had before I replaced it with a K10D). While not a Sports photographer's camera, the camera was immediately ready after a shot.

I hope the K-m (K2000) is going to be a best seller
nice to know that the AF has been improved. if it's just the algorithm that was tweaked, how i hope pentax would provide the same tweaks for the older bodies.

Given the size of the new camera and the sparse room for buttons, they chose to make one of the very few buttons .....a Help button.

For the love of god.

How 'kin hard is it to figure out what aperture does?

BTW can you manually select AF points with the thing or not?

So is Pentax only showing 4 new items at Photokina? The 15mm, 55mm, 60-250mm and the new body kit?
To say honestly,
DA55, 60-250, teleconvertor and ring flash are old development...
K-m is come back to *ist DL dimensions.

Nothing new...At all.

So, Why Samsung announced the development by themselves *alone*?
It was NOT an official announcement. It was just a blurb by their executive during an interview. There was NO press releases!

Pentax need to make K2000s with Samsung 14mp sensor ASAP.
(but with low cost... imposible?)
Actually, the most puzzling thing is the slow DSLR development by Samsung. I really thought from the way they churn out digital compacts that they could get products ready in no time. But they did not produce a clone of K100/200/-m and yet they have no product in that class to offer. Very puzzling indeed.

There was one interview mentioning that their entry level camera won't be ready until next year. That's very slow by Samsung's standard.

Why do you need Hoya to say anything? The writing is on the wall!
The future of Pentax right now is APS-C!

Why are people still demanding FF from Pentax?
Do you know that Nikon D700's sales in Japan has dropped to 0.9% market share in less than 2 months after launch? And the combined sales of Nikon D3 + D700 is only 1.1% market share in Japan?

Given the traditional Nikon : Pentax sales ratio, how many Pentax FF can be sold? There is just no way a Pentax FF can break even (let alone making any money at all) or recoup its R&D and marketing cost at current market condition!

I am very dissatisfaction to no live-view.
K2000(K-m) is entry level model.
entry users are prefer camera with L/V, rather than no L/V.

Pentax need to make K2000s with Samsung 14mp sensor ASAP.
(but with low cost... imposible?)

if it is true soon, Canon/Nikon/Sony's entry line up will be eleminated.
To put sensor from top-model to low-end is not right.
If Pentax has new sensor for new top-camera, it could be right and easy way - to put old one to low-end model. But Pentax has no another sensor. Only 10 Mp SONY and 14.6 Mp Samsung....

I don't understand why they can't buy 12 MP CMOS or 14.2 MP CCD from Sony...

not right? why?

Canon 400D & Canon 40D
Nikon D80 & Nikon D200
they use same sensor.

than Canon 450D & Canon 40D
450D uses more higher resolution sensor.

It's simply as a day...
A lot of pentaxians used film cameras, a lot of pentaxians love Pentax lenses and
want to use favorite FF lenses at Pentax FF body.

Good FF is low-noise at high ISO and normal focal range for FF lenses.

MF cameras users have NOTHING from Pentax now. 645 and 67 systems are almost dead.

Leica was almost dead several years ago...And now they can offer S2 in 2009, FF R10 in 2010 and M8 and film cameras too...But Leica is TOO EXPENSIVE...

I wish it were this simple. But the bottom line is that there aren't enough of these FF loving Pentaxians, or rather, FF loving Pentaxians who are willing to pay the $$$ for a Pentax FF.

There was a poll in dpreview asking how many would actually pay for a Pentax FF... not that many even in a forum like dpreview.

Pentax is a part of Hoya now and I see the total neglect of Pentax to the users of 645 and 67 Pentax system and 135 system.
Pentax was the photo technology leader in Japan, but now it's a smallest manufacturer of APS-C cameras...

Even Sony didn't forget Minolta's amateurs.
