As for "normal" (with the exception of the Oly 420) mounts it is smaller than all.
Even the 420 is only smaller in one dimension (okay, two if you can notice the difference betweeh 91,5 and 91 mm). In SR land it really is the smallest one!! It is smaller than the Oly 520.
If you compare the weight, wll okay it is 30 grams heavier than the 520. Wow, backbreaking difference,,,,

Not really sure about the entry level of teh K200D, many here and others have the opinion that the K200D is somewhat above entry level, too much in fact to get a decent market position in that area.

Tekade sells the K200D + 18-55 for exactly the same price as the KMD+kit offical price.... By the way the OFFICIAL K200D + kit price is € 799,00
I certainly hope they do not use the same "downpricing for the KMD, that would surely mean the end of tekade and Pentax.
While I agree that a sealed KMD would be nice... well K200D is still smallest and cheapest if you really want that... Sealed KMD would really kill the KxxxD series.

K200D is logical choice for those looking for an small cheap sealed dslr and not finding it in the KMD, the next step would be K200D.
The size is okey. A smaller grip like the Oly E-420 would be nice.
But 590gr. without SD card and battery's, the Oly E-520 is 470gr.

I'm looking for an "easy to take with me" dSLR, perhaps this is the one.

approx. 590g (20.8oz.) loaded and ready with lithium battery and SD memory card
approx. 625g (22.0oz.) loaded and ready with alkaline battery and SD memory card

A little weight is good: it feels sturdier than competition, better build and durable. And we're talking about grams here!

The camera will have two names (depending on the market) ? It seems that it wears the K2000 name too http://www.imaging-resource.com/NPICS1/K2000_5_L.JPG ( NEWS! - Pentax: New DSLR, ring flash, and lenses aplenty )

Yes, it seems it will be called K2000 in the USA and K-m in Europe. Don't know about the rest of the world.

Oh well, they probably want to bank on the K1000 which apparently was some kind of icon in north America.

I think I may buy that one in Europe if the price difference is not too ridiculous. ;-)

I see the difference between K-m and K2000 specs:

K-m - 3.5 fps (5 JPG and and Continuous Hi, 4 RAW), 1.1 FPS (unlimited JPG and Continuous Lo, 7 RAW);
Pentax K-m - PENTAX Europe GmbH

K2000
Continuous FPS - 3.2 FPS (4 JPG and Continuous Hi, 4 RAW), 1.1 FPS (unlimited JPG and Continuous Lo, 4 RAW);

On Pentax's website about this camera:
"Thanks to a thorough review of the AF algorithm, this AF system also offers improved autofocusing speed under poor-lighting conditions, in which conventional AF systems take longer to focus on the subject."

I am not sure what's the "conventional AF systems" the website refers to.
Hopefully it's K20D and the AF is really much improved compared to K20D ^_^.

if pentax engineers can do this for the km, surely they can do this for the other pentax bodies!

my DL is a good camera but could really use a tweak on the AF like that.
ditto on my k10.

if it could be made better via algorithm change, why not?
question is, Will they?
