That's some fancy video promos with little information, but it looks big and fat. As much as I enjoy my dfa100mm, I think there's easily room in the k-mount for a highly corrected longish macro lens. If the optical performance is there and the price isn't obscene, I can see the attraction.

As always, it's great to see a 3rd party manufacturer recognize that Pentax even exists.

Yes but no more than with a 65mm of 100mm lens at 2:1. As already explained before in this very thread: at macro distance, depth of field only depends on the magnification ratio, not on the lens's focal length.

Yes, I do realise that. You have same thing with anything. Even for normal shooting. Closer you are the subject, thinner the focus and other way around. I’d even say that there is no reason to do longer lens with 2:1 or greater manification, because shaking will play bigger and bigger role in it. Unless you have really sturdy tripod and flashes and...but that will take away this ’hey look at that bug going there, let’s take a shot and move on ’ -thing. Sun will set before getting a shot with big rig

Though I would have prefered a 2:1 magnification, this lens is interesting. Any street price mentioned yet?

That's a nice set of features!! Shame it's more than twice as heavy as the DFA100/2.8, but I'm going to try it out for sure!

I have not understood the need for anything between a autofocus DFA 100 mm Macro (which you can use the x1,4 converter with) and a DA* 300, for which you can also use a x1,4 converter and also can use a 25mm distance ring (with full AF).
The latter combination provides a huge working distance if required.

The Irix also seems to be huge compared to the DFA 100. The DFA 100 also works well as a portrait lens.

I once tried a new Sigma 200mm macro, but sent it back.
DFA is also WR, so yeah not sure about the attraction of this over a DFA 100.

Actually it seems to have a quite short throw on the ring as for macro tele lens on that pictures(looks less than 180 degrees-edit: apart from what they stated that is 270 degrees, distance scale looks its not that way)... Still I will consider it as long portrait tele for my use. Charts are looking awesome

From their announcement:

"The Irix 150mm f / 2.8 Macro 1:1 lens has been sealed in key points (the front element, the Focus Lock ring, the focusing ring and bayonet), making it suitable for use in the harshest of weather conditions such as fog, rain or snow."

Plus, it has neutrino coatings, which is just high tech sounding.

One more point is that IRIX and Samyang optics are partners, hard to say how close they are and if the latter will launch a 150mm macro soon

As far as I'm aware(and most of that I got from web and trade shows talk, nothing official), they are indeed Korean made, but not sure if exactly Samyang related, for example as far as I'm aware both Samyang and Irix have diffrent distributors for Europe. There was serious "beef" between current Irix distributor(Next77) and Samyang some years ago. Irix brand lenses are effect of cooperation between some Korean (manufacturer) and european Polish(Q-Media)-Swiss(TH-Swiss) ,distribution and design team.

Surprisingly it is internal focus. Might be the first 1:1 macro lens with IF. Or are there already such lenses around?

Cheers - Klaus

The Sigma EX180/3.5 is (was) IF as well. IF explains part of the bulk...

There is also a M4/3 Olympus Zuiko 30 and 60 mm lenses that are IF.
