Irix Dragonfly 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1

Since yesterday Irix have posted three video teasers on their YouTube channel:

The third one reveals the Dragonfly is a lens. Photo Rumors goes one step further and 'guesses' that this lens is a 150mm macro lens. Pretty educated guess I would say, considering that the image below (found on their website: Third Irix Dragonfly lens teaser - Photo Rumors) does not come from the video...

Considering that the two lenses already launched by TH Swiss AG under the Irix trademark are available in Pentax KA mount, I chose to post the above in this section.

That would be good news for Pentax users who are snobbed by sigma...
Irix lenses come with no AF right?

Right. Irix lenses are KA lenses, not KAF. So far (but I don't think their first autofocus lens would be a macro lens).

I really like my Irix 15mm, so would be interested in what they present now...

At last some news! Maybe we should divide news&rumors into two separate sections.

It's still a rumour though...

It could be great option for macro. No AF really needed there.

I have not understood the need for anything between a autofocus DFA 100 mm Macro (which you can use the x1,4 converter with) and a DA* 300, for which you can also use a x1,4 converter and also can use a 25mm distance ring (with full AF).
The latter combination provides a huge working distance if required.

The Irix also seems to be huge compared to the DFA 100. The DFA 100 also works well as a portrait lens.

I once tried a new Sigma 200mm macro, but sent it back.

Depends on your needs. For big insects the 300 + TC is a good option. But for smaller animals it's scale of 0,36 is not enough. And the working distance of the 100 frequently makes that you don't get the shot (animal flew away).

I normally use the F100 and the DA*300 for macro of insects, both almost always with the TC 1,4x. To have the option of scale of 1:1 with 150mm, and 1,4 with the TC added, is interesting for me.

Cheers - Klaus

I know Sigma do a 150mm and 180mm macro but was unaware they did a 200mm.

Between my DFA100/2.8 and my Sigma EX180/3.5 I don't really need a 150mm macro, but I might be tempted if the max aperture would be interesting and if they would offer a WR package. Perhaps they might go beyond 1:1, that might be something too, esp given the working distance at 150mm.

Irix is a planned stop on my photokina itinerary anyway, so I'm hoping I'll have it in my hands soon, regardless what it is...

Fully agree, beyond 1:1 would boost their sales

Well, any new lens with K mount support is good news right? More choice > less choice

irix seems to be choosing wisely... offering ff lenses that no one else does for k mount, with aperture control. i already have the sigma 180mm macro though.
