The only thing I am curious about is the "Shadow Compensation" (Ogl, were you referring to this?).
Does anybody know what is it?
And is it true that the focus point is not selectable?
Shadow compensation works in combination with the enhanced dynamic range function.
It lightens up the shadows, prevents them from being too dark.

The AF is selectable between wide (all 5 points) or spot (centre point only).
Not possible to select other points manually than the center one.
But with only 5 points that is not a big issue.

Pentax re-uses the 5 point AF from the *ist DL2, but with new processing algorithms.

Oh, sure, they hate the fact that with AA batteries you get X shots, but with proprietary batteries you get X+123 or something.

But when you're far from a power point and your Li-Ion karks it, the local petrol station isn't gonna have another one.
I believe many hates AA because they believe that they don't last long.
But in the K-m, they last longer (according to the specifications) than the non-AA batteri in the K10D etc. So for the K-m, I don't understand the fear of AA batteries.

2. No socket for cable remote release.
OMG I did not notice this. Another reason I cannot use this camera. Still nice for beginners, but I'd lose too much even moving from the K100D Super.

Yes. Focus point is not selectable manually.
The AF is better in low-light than all Pentax cameras.
This is the nicest feature in my opinion even though it's difficult to understand how much better it is gonna be given that it uses the same processor of K200d/k20d...
It's interesting also to see how well the shadow compensation will work.

Right now I have the k100d and I think I am going to change it when I'll feel there will be a sensible advantage in buying a new body. Probably after pma09 with a possible K300d?

1. No top-LCD panel.
2. No socket for cable remote release.
3. No weather sealing.
4. No depth-of-field preview (?-button can be programmed to electronic preview, but I can't find depth-of-field preview there)
5. No AE-L button.

So, 5 different features compared to the K200D.
1. No need for a lot of newbies. All entry-level cameras have no TOP LCD.
And even cameras from higher class too. Have a look at SONY models.
2. Use remote control. It's smaller and lighter.
3. To reduce dimensions and weight.
4. No need. Especially, for newbie, I never used it for 4 years.
5. THERE IS - AF button can be used for AE-L.

The operation of K-m is easy and not bad. Simply another algorithm than all previous Pentax cameras.
There is direct access to all parameters thru OK button.
WB and ISO are on separate buttons of joystick.

Well they managed to beat the 1000D, D40x and D60 in price.

Now they need to start tooting their own horn.

How the new K-m looks like on the inside...

It seems to me that K-m is the last APS-C camera in digital history with CCD chip.

You never know what idea a manufacturer may come with

Wow, such prescience!

It matters little whether the chip is CMOS or CCD in terms of image quality and other important parameters. My understanding is that the only reason Pentax switched to CMOS in the previous two models was for Live View support.

Pentax has only one camera with CMOS, not two.
The advantage with CMOS over CCD:

A/D is an integrated part of the sensor. This shortens the signal path and avoids noise. Now, when the signal is amplified for higher ISO, the noise is of course also amplified but since all this is so early in the signal processing chain, there is less noise introduced when compared to a CCD solution with external A/D converter.

CMOS sensors are thinner and therefore lighter than CCD, which means that the sensor based shake reduction system can work more efficient.

And, of course, the possibility of live view...

CMOS has really problems with colours. Canon's camera's end picture is some kind of
"whiter shade of pale" or unreal acid. Sony A700 or new Nikons are the same...
The real problems with skin-tones.

LV is marketing thing.

And so is the K20D? If not, the problem is not CMOS, the problem would be the signal processing/denoising algorithms.

Uh huh. Pros using CMOS DSLRs (any brand) never complained about colors being off with their cameras.

If CMOS is such a disgrace, no decent camera manufacturer would have even considered putting it in their cameras.

Maybe, maybe not. Sony still has their feet in the CCD camp with their entry-level DSLRs, and they're moving units, so they may still continue to go along that route.
