When good GR2 becomes a better GR3

Have to admire the nerve of Ricoh producing another GR apsc sensor camera in the same small package. The philosophy remains the same. What you see on the outside is the same, but what you get on the inside changes and in this case quite a bit. It is a small 'box' and you like it or you don't. More 'bells and whistles' are available elsewhere, but not in that package.

Look forward to next year.........................could drag on, but most people here are patient. What choice do you have?

Hybrid AF (Image plane phase-matching and Contrast detection) (A 1st for Pentax)
A new "Highlight-weighted " metering
Touchscreen

I can see these incorporated into a new DSLR or MILC or GXRII in the future...

I actually like it and I am curious whether WR is added or not. With DR maybe not a deal-breaker. I am currently reconsidering what I want tech-wise. I use Pentax film SLRs and a nice digicam like the GR would add benefit to that when travelling. Vice-versa, if I buy a K-1 II next year, I have a small Pentax P&S to have some film with me. Depends a bit on funds. After all, it's about options and GR is a nce option for me.

Nice looking camera with great specs.

So this is the CP+ launch that has a preview at Photokina.

Indeed, about the launch date the Japanese website says "Spring 2019 (planned)."

CP+ 2019 is from 28 February to 3 March, this is coherent.

Come out in the K-70 originally But if the GRIII uses it for stills, it would be a first.

Perhaps too late, too little

Basically it is GR II with a little pixel count upgrade. Fuji did this last year with X100F and will probably soon introduce next generation. Sony introduced RX1 with same pixel count six years ago. Lens in original GR was alreadly excellent and keeping same maximum brightnes won't bring much improvement. But let wait to see first pictures... Anyway at least F2 would be welcome, but Leica already did that three years ago.
Image stabilization and articulated screen are welcomed, but almost necessary. But speaking personally biggest dissapointment is no EVF, at least as accessory, as original RX1 has.
In my opinion GR platform should become a basis for future Pentax mirrorless cameras and introduce interchangeable lenses. As such I will rather keep GR and use K1 instead.

An optical one as accessory, I think.

I wanted this to have an EVF like the GXR but the touchscreen function will get the same job unless it is too sunny outside.

Maybe they still add it?

I really want this. Looks as small as the GRD series. I’m sure this has some tech from Pentax in it, but there’s no way that camera has the Pentax magnetic SR in it. It must be a whole new smaller system. That could come back to Pentax DSLRs. A few months to get my finances in order.

Nahh...it does not follow the GR lineage. Maybe they will add it to the their future mirror-less cam.
