The interesting thing to me is the hybrid AF. Wonder if we'll be seeing that in future pentax cameras...

The same AF is in all new cameras. K-70, KP, K-1.

I had to use LV for
First photo with KP - PentaxForums.com
because I was having trouble convincing myself that the photo was what I wanted when I used the OVF.
Focusing was a tad slow, but it did hit it.

AFAIK only the K-70 is supposed to use pdaf in video mode. The KP might since it probably has the same sensor but the K-1 certainly not. We don't know anything about the number of sensor pdaf points or their spread either. Let's hope implementation in de GR III is better.

does K-70 have also accelerator chip? they have worked quite a bit with AF algorytms already since K- and after that, I’d think that lot has changed, even if chips would be same

It does but the chip has nothing to do with AF, it's for noise reduction. From reviews I gathered AF in video is near useless. I hope Ricoh implemented pdaf in still mode so the GR III will be a fast shooter.

It's already on show in Asia, limited pre-production I suppose. I used to not like the GR, but having seen a few versions of the new GRIII, turned my mind around, it's really pocket-able, the kind of large sensor camera that can be carried around seamlessly for when an ILC is too large.

Would not be surprised if video is not super good, and AF for that either. About that chip. I’v thought that it helps also general performance, because of that also AF. But can be wrong.

For general performance you have a cpu. Accelerator chips are dedicated (hard wired) to a certain task that the cpu can only do through software. The one in the K70/KP/K1 II is for denoising. Other brands have dedicated accelerator chips for AF performance.
