Sony stopped selling smartphones in Turkey recently. I think these things are happening in many countries these days.

It's also cheaper for the companies. The owners of their gear have no warranty to claim.

I don't think Pentax is strong in this grey market.

I do wonder where all those grey market articles are coming from. Are those all open boxes send back after an online sale?
despite what everybody is sayin about europe, I think even more companies and countries should stop selling things to Turkey and stop buying from them...

I like that Mr. Baus pretty much acknowledges that the K-1 II's RAW noise filtering should have been optional. Too bad that Ricoh Japan is apparently not listening to product managers from other countries. They could have saved themselves quite a bit of drama and perhaps sold some cameras more.

I also liked that he positioned Pentax as a company that produces cameras for still photography. I appreciate the needs and wants of people who want to create video but as supporting video optimally comes with compromises for still photography, I'm glad that Ricoh apparently will stick to optical viewfinders and optimise their camera design for still photography.

Stephen Obermeier interviews Mr. Wolfgang Baus (Product Manager & Group Leader Marketing D/A/CH, Press- and Media Relation)

Interview mit Wolfgang Baus (Pentax Germany) auf der Photokina 2018 - YouTube

Maybe some wants to use the Youtube feature which auto generates a transscript and then translates it to English.

Provides some extra insights.
Listening for 8 minutes and stopped. He keeps talking about GR III in a manner like he was briefed a day before photokina....
Lots of wishes and expectations, but Pentax will tell details just before the next fare.
I don´t feel desperate enought to listen 46 minutes to the talk.

So is LX a new FF? That would set the Forum keyboards afire.

told you guys... they are going release a full frame mirrorless camera line that will bring all the fuji fanboys back to a real CAMERA company with real vintage glass... we will be using “eterna” picture profiles like 35mm film and you will all come crawling back. mwahahaha!!

such a mistake... if they want fuji users back, they should give us 10bit internal at 24, 25 and 30 fps... nothing crazy... just late 2018 era usability for b-roll and stills; delivered in a pentax body in late 2019...

I can totally understand Ricoh's frustration the KP didn't sell as well as a Fuji X-T2 ... but the X-T2 (and now X-T3) is power house 4k camera with on-chip phase detection to enable more reliable, faster, and accurate focusing. Like it or not, Ricoh has to get on board with 4k and they have to really step up with AF. Personally, for me 4k is useless since I do not create videos but the marketplace expects this. AF is definitely a weak spot for Ricoh unless you only photograph stationary subjects. Even then, it's still a little weak compared to other mirror'ed systems.

"Fix" those two things and more people will flock to the K-mount ecosystem.
the max yurev video released yesterday outlines the verisimilitude of ALL manufacturers in the area of autofocus (in video specifically)—there is almost no difference anymore. pentax needs to listen to the market, and at least keep up...

perhaps a digression—but if they would’ve put 24 frames per second in the menu options, the manual focus b-roll capabilities of even the older k-5 are actually much better than the much later video darling canon 70d... for professional use the bitrate is much higher. they need to release a camera with a log profile and semi-modern hybrid video features if they want big sales.

Whatever Pentax releases to celebrate the first 100 years should obviously not be called Pentax LX. That was how they celebrated the 60th anniversary (released in 1980 even if the anniversary was in 1979!). The appropriate model name for the 100th anniversary would be Pentax C.
In the tradition of terrible Pentax names (*ist D anyone?) the new camera will be the Pentax 10^2 (pronounced "ten squared"). Official branding will be a 10 with a superscript 2.

Except that, like for the LX, they will use Roman numerals: XII.

You heard it here first!

Hmmmm... flagship APS-c in 2019 (because I want a camera that fits the batteries I already own.) I hope there's a Silver edition. I'm always picking up the K-1 when I want the K-3 and vice versa. 2019 is not that far off. I better start saving my pennies. There will be no DFA 150-450 again this year.

Too bad the KP's buffer is inadequate for you. When I do get one, I plan to get the "silver" edition of it - it will look so much like my Super Program!

Next year, I'll be looking out for the Pentax KC. If it's good enough for the Sunshine Band, it's good enough for the Pentax centenary year. That's the way I like it.

gold vein to be mined here

XxX (10 x 10)

But lets be more contemporary and use hexadecimal

The new model will be the K64 - that will make for head scratching

But, the binary option is far more exciting

K1100100

Q→APSC→FF→645→WG→Theta→GR, seven product lines strictly only released a new product of the DFA*50/1.4 in year of 2018.
Ricoh ruined Pentax.

How about instead of a digital LX, the Pentax XXL, for all the extra large people in your life...

Three products in two lines actually:
  • FF: (i) Pentax K-1 II and (ii) HD Pentax-D FA★ 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW
  • WG: (iii) Ricoh WG-60
But I agree: this is a meagre harvest.
