Maybe it's a K16000 century model.

If you go back and read carefully and keep the mind from doing the autocorrect thing, they wrote that this possible K70 replacement is the newest "flaghip" - not flagship - I quote, "Pentax next flaghip APS-C camera" Pentax K70 Successor Coming on January 2019 [Rumor] « NEW CAMERA Well, this being the entry end of DSLRs obviously indicates it's after the new entry hipster market and not the K3 II replacement.

Loving all the qualifying weasel words: “unconfirmed” “possible” “rumor” “Japanese sources” “surfaced over the web”

IOW uncorroborated BS.

One thing that is usually missed in these discussions about which is (or is not) the "flagship" is what "flagship" means after going through several language translations.

It is generally accepted here that "flagship" means a top level, prosumer or better body. Best, and most expensive in a particular line with the newest and highest level tech.

But allowing for translation differences it can mean something as simple as "newest" or "next".

I am not saying this is the case, I have no more information than anyone else. But it is possible that when the KP was announced and the word "flagship" associated with it, all that was meant by Ricoh was the "next APS-C body". This new rumor about a K-70 successor can mean just that. The "next APS-C body", without any qualifications of where that potential body might lie in our artificial organization chart.

It seems logical to assume that there should be a good, better, best body lineup in APS-C. And that all of those slots should be filled. But what if that is not the case? Try a paradigm shift where instead of building out three different lines they just build one new APS-C camera at a time and it fits into no particular 'slot'. Just what they build.

Yep!!! Yep!!!

Someone trying to glean clicks by attaching imaginary information to the only sliver of real information, registering the Bluetooth radio in a new model of camera manufactured by Ricoh. Based on prior history, this is as likely to be for the newly announced GR III as for a new unannounced Pentax DSLR.

Except that the radio registration for the GRIII was this last Spring.

Best guess is the K-1 100th year anniversary model for Photokina May 2019.

By reading the interview from the reps of Ricoh/Pentax. It was mentioned that it's the 100th anniversary of asahi optical. so i guess they will release something for that anniversary.

---------- Post added 10-08-2018 at 12:57 AM ----------

I may add... not necessarily K-1 (ogl) but something for the anniversary.

My 'guess' is actually two FF cameras - one 'above' {say 45mb} K-1 and one 'below' {say 24mb} - but this would make sense only if they're producing several FF lenses, especially several more 'basic' ones.

In my case I've been playing with 'mental blocks' ever since I first heard @asahiman's words about their focusing on FF.

That's an auto-imposed mental block - focusing on FF is not the same as working only on FF.

From words by @asahiman, I expect most of this year's announcements to be FF.
They can design only so many camera bodies a year.
If they also announce a "flagship" (*), that doesn't leave much room for anything else.

(*) and for sake of those waiting, I hope they do

This year is almost over. If you're talking about the next, you don't know what will happen then - except that at least an APS-C lens is planned.
