Indeed people are eagerly waiting for the K-New and I'm sure the first months of sales will be a success. The difficulty is more to maintain the momentum during the product's lifespan. I remember when the long-awaited K-1 was launched: during the first months the numbers were fantastic, fare above Ricoh Imaging France's expectations, then in August sales went down as expected (seasonality effect) but they never fully recovered afterwards. During the Salon de la Photo in November Ricoh Imaging France representatives were clearly disappointed with the brevity of the K-1's commercial success, even though they had then sold more cameras that expected.

What for? A 135 f2.8 with modern design seems more useful. But your purpose may be aligned to your needs.

I have used my old Tak 135 F3.5 w/ext tubes and it makes a dandy macro... I haven't gotten around to trying my Tak 200mm F4, but if I wanted a fast macro, we have enough 100mm I think, I would like a 180mm or 200mm macro again, at a reasonable price with fast AF, not typical macro speed AF. Doesn't have to be a speed demon stop wise, F4 would be fine, going to stop down a long tele macro anyway or DOF would be silly thin. Just enough Fstop for bright focusing and AF, so F2.8 to F4.0 range would be fine for me... F3.5 happy medium? Heh.

I would love a modern 135/2 or 2.8 - but I would also be interested in looking at a 70-200/4 offering.

Hey Frederic, I just noticed this in classifieds... no DFA, but you like manual focus, right? He is even in your neck of the woods.

Just buy a Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM and a Canon camera or a Yongnuo YN 100mm f/2 and a Canon or a Nikon camera.

Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus (STF) – LAOWA Camera Lenses

Would this help ease the pain of waiting? Manual focus is the only downside.

Again the Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus (STF) – LAOWA Camera Lenses is a k mount solution without autofocus if that works.

Lenses with an apodisation element have a special rendering of the out-of-focus areas but why not?

Right. Since the mention of portrait use came up I figured the stf type lens would fit the need.

In addition, the Laowa 105mm f/2 STF is f/2 but only T/3.2, which may or may not be a problem.

Wow 1.2 stops of loss relative to T stop is high. I had no idea.

That's because of the apodisation filter.

Apodisation derives from the ancient Greek: α, which means without (as in asynchronous, arrhythmia, atone, etc.), and πούς ('pous'), genitive ποδός ('podos'), the foot (as in podiatrist, chiropodist, etc.) = that removes the foot. The filter has the effect of cutting off the foot (= the outer part) of the Airy disc.

In doing so it reduces the amount of light transmitted by the lens, hence the large difference between f-stop and T-stop.

I’d take one too but only the real thing.
