Since those lenses all have stabilization, is it reasonable to assume the Pentax would be ~50 g lighter? Then again, the 70-200/2.8 is heavier than anyone else's...

The Canon is stabilized at 780 g as well.

All three lenses quoted by rawr are stabilised as well.

I do not understand why launching an f4 whereas a f2.8 is available with exact same range.
There are other needs in the line up that are more essential

I'm sure they've got their rumour from this thread. Their rumours usually have their origins from this forum.

For Pentax' market position the DFA* 70-200 simply is too expensive to be the only one.

Then why not delivering this f4 first ?

Because a 70-200 f2.8, although not too many people actually buy one, is one of the most important lenses in a lineup too.
It (70-200 f2.8 in general, not about the one by Pentax in specific) is considered the affordable high end tele zoom for sports and portait and a lens many dream about getting in the future. Even ten years back it was a big deal in many discussions that it is missing from Pentax' lineup and people told others that this should be a reason to not buy a Pentax.

If the rumour is correct and the 70-200 f4 will be using the Tokina lens desing it is propably quite cheap in development compared to others too.

If it was about me personally Pentax should work on:

DFA* 35 /1.4
DFA* 24 /1.4
DFA* 16-50 /2.8

I am not too sure how good this would be from a economical standpoint though. The primes would propably not generate a lot of new customers.

I am not sure, how much about development costs is about doing the optical setup and how much the casing is. But maybe Pentax somewhere missed the point to modernize the limited lineup completly by using new af modules and weather sealing. Maybe they did not. Propably even Pentax doesnt know for sure.

Not necessarily from this thread, but from one of our contributors on another site (quoting sources in Germany). However, they say they have another source to confirm it. Make of all that, what you will.

I am all for a 70-200/4, I will be buying one but I hope it's a Pentax design. Looking forward to their updated pdf file of the roadmap too, next week.

I agree a better DFA*16-50 is urgently needed. I hope they bring the star version of 16-85 which was first indicated in roadmap...

I haven't heard that this is a Tokina design (in fact that seems unlikely since it would have been released quite awhile ago if that was the case)...
