New zoom 70-200 F4

Hello dear Pentaxians,

I was looking at this page:
Product Page of HD PENTAX-DA 70mm F2.4 Limited interchangeable lens - RICOH IMAGING EUROPE S.A.S

And saw a roadmap just below...

Was someone aware of that HD Pentax-D FA 70-200mmF4 (tentative name)? Do you have more info about it?

Kind regards.

J.

It has been rumored for some time and officially added to the roadmap in March of this year with expected release sometime next year.

Tamron recently released a new 70-210 f4. I wonder if the new Pentax lens will also be 70-210 ...

70-200/4...Tokina is the more likely source.

There’s also a recent Tokina 70-200 that has been linked to it...

Though I don’t really care if it’s a rebadge or a Pentax original, as long as it’s a good lens for the money...

I’m hoping for something along the lines of the DFA 28-105 in terms of quality.

I’m expecting it to replace the 60-250 in the lineup, though I don’t expect it to be a * lens. I think the 60-250 is just in a weird place with the DFA 70-200 f2.8, so its replacement will be cheaper. And in that FL range, I don’t see a benefit to a DA lens vs a DFA in terms of size/weight...

And all I’ve said is simply speculation with nothing backing it up but a mind oversaturated with pie...

By the way, here's the current roadmap (with the D FA* 50mm already moved from "summer" inte the lineup):

Expected date: 21st march to 20th june (spring season).

I hope they do not go the cheap rout and stick to typical market rates for OEM lenses.

Both the latest Sony and Canon FF 70-200/4 lenses started off at 1400 EUR, which is a substantial 600 EUR cheaper than the quite cheap 70-200/2.8.
So they should price this lens somewhere around 1300-1500 EUR.

There is no way this lens would be related to that Tamron, the focal lengths don't match (and no, the D FA 15-30 is not labeled as a 14-25 - numbers would match).
There is a chance that it would use Tokina-designed optics. We don't know that yet. This happened once in the previous Pentax-Tokina collaboration, with the DA 12-24 being a Tokina design while all the other lenses being Pentax designs. The Tokina appears to be a good lens with a slight flare issue (which Pentax' coatings might solve).
Or it could be a Pentax design, like most of their lenses.

The DFA 70-200 f2.8 is $1,600 today from Ricoh, and significantly less from other places.

If the 70-200 f4 is $1,400, I think they will sell four of them... that’s partially why I think it will also replace the 60-250. I expect they will want a lens with good margins selling significantly below the f2.8’s price point, and I expect the 60-250 can’t do that.

I would expect a price that settles around $800 or so, depending on how good it is.

My thoughts as well for list price with eventual street price coming in somewhat lower.

Hope they're not looking at canons 70-200 4 II, I remember thinking their f4 zoom was reasonably priced, but new one is like $1300..

Any news on this lens? I am extremely interested since I don't have any focal longer than 77mm and the 70-200 f/2.8 is too expensive for me at the moment. Also I'm doing some hiking so it might be too heavy to carry around for landscapes (the f/2.8).

A bit too early for that - I think a CP+ announcement (end of February) is likely.
