Amazon taking orders for new stuff

K2000 as kit only, with 18/55 and flash.

Amazon.com: New Digital SLRs, Lenses and More from Photokina 2008

Well worth it!

Did you see the shipping weight of the 60-250 in the Amazon specs?

67 pounds.

That is one heavy lens.

It may be the lens costs $500. to produce, but the price has to be set at triple that because of shipping costs when dealing with such heavy glass...

I for one don't think that price will last for long. Say 72 hours.

It'll likely drop a bit by the time it actually hits the streets, same as the K2000 kit will I am betting.
But if it doesn't it really isn't too far off the status quo. The DA*300/4 is $1000+ and the DA*200/2.8 is just under $900. This is a constant aperture (190mm spread) zoom with SDM and o-rings. That's twice the spread of the DA*50-135mm and it pulls $750.
So while that's a big honkin' sticker on that fancy glass the projected price doesn't surprise me; just confirms my wallet doesn't think I need it.

Good grief, so much for Pentax being the budget photographers choice. $1500 for the 60-250mm? I know this is full retail, and price will eventually come down a bit, but damn. The Canon 70-200 f/4 L is only $1050 street price and it has their awesome 2 way IS built in.

$700 for the K-M is also over the top. I like that little camera, but it's no better than the Sony A200, and you can walk into any Best Buy and get the A200 with 18-70mm SDM lens for $500.

Don't even get me started on the $800 price of the 55mm prime. Seriously? Weather sealing + SDM = $600 more than the current 50mm? The only thing that really separates that lens from the Canon 50mm F/1.4 is weather sealing....and the Canon sells for $360. My head hurts now.

exactly! i always compare this lens to the Canon. yes the canon is missing 50mm at the long end, not that big of a deal really and the IS is more effective anyways. for $1500, you could pick up an old canon body and the 70-200mm IS f4 :S

Price of the Hoya stuff is insane. $1500? Gimme a break, the SDM is likely slower than the USM or Nikon motor anyway. Who the hell are they kidding?

They charge a premium for SDM when the kit lenses from other marques have it and it's better anyway.

If it wasn't for the pancakes i'd be seriously considering switching at these prices.

Not to mentiuon that you can get a used 70-200 f/2.8 for $1K in other mounts.

Pentax is the new Sony.

I would expect the $699 price tag to include the bigger zoom as well and a custom bag for the kit.
Prices for the lenses are ridiculous.
I don't like the way they are taking orders for these kits. If there is an initial feeding frenzy and then a price drop, a lot of new customers are going to be pissed at Pentax from the get go.
Pentax can do very well out of the K2000 if they handle it properly or they can shoot themselves in the other foot.

Keep Pentax for the pancakes then go Canon/Nikon for telephotos. Not a bad proposition.

The Sigma 100-300 f4 is only $1100. I think that is a very fair price. And I'm calling this one in early: it'll probably be the better lens.

The sigma 100-300/4 is a 3x zoom and costs $1100 and is tested.
The Pentax 60-250/4 is a 4x zoom, has dual AF, is weather sealed and costs $1500 and has neevr even been tested yet.

I'm sorry guys but I totally fail to understand your reaction.
