I've wanted an FA35/2.0 for some time, but have been holding off because it's not really necessary. However, IF the optical performance is improved and IF the damping is as acceptable for full manual focus as I found the FA50 to be, I would be putting it toward the top of my list. Yes, it's a rework - but it appears to be either completely new production or at least new assembly of leftover FA35 part stock with revamped focus ring and external case, and that means new-product warranties and no concerns over how well it will or will not work.

I suspect that they didn't want any potential for a new-build FA 50/1.4 Version 2.0 taking any wind from the DFA*50/1.4's sails (or sales, it works both ways). So that was a non-contender, and the 35/2.0 is the only other FA lens that has been in anywhere near recent production that they could adapt the line for new changes and restart.

Others' mileage may vary, but I can live with those sorts of compromises.

If the 35mm f2 significantly underperforms the DFA*50mm in autofocus performance then Pentax is wasting it's time, unless it's pricing is very low.
Wow, there's just no pleasing some people.

Oh but its mirrorless that makes it much better! Don't you know that?
From where did you parachute into the conversation? It's not mirrorless vs. DSLR discussion. I said full frame. A7 is the cheapest one. You don't have to pay 2000$ to use full frame any more. if you want to use digital full frame camera and not analog one, this is the cheapest. You can use other lenses with it, either in AF mode or manual, depending on the adapters. Well, using adapters is quite common even for Pentaxians, they love adapters. How to use all those M42 lenses then, all those great Takumars, ha?

Fingers crossed for a nice re-do of the 35f2. I like the lens, would like an updated one, especially with WR. Also would like a 20mm 2.8, a 24 F2.8 and a 28 f2.8, WR as well (yes, that's greedy on the wide side).

It's a nice camera, and produces a great red channel at 1600 ISO.
For $800 pretty much a steal if you can afford the lenses for it.

I'm sorry my friend, but what does a full frame Sony Camera have to do with this thread? >>> 11-18 and revamped 35mm F2 on january 31? I'm anxious to learn.

"The rumored HD Pentax FA 35mm f/2 lens will be announced tomorrow. Nokishita reports that the price will be 48,600 including tax (around $450). For comparison, the Pentax SMCP-FA 35mm f/2.0 AL lens is now selling for $289.95. The expected release date is February 22nd."

It's really interesting to read some of the assumptions and logic people apply to the re-rerelease of a lens la "Ricoh is probably on a deep 5-year long R&D run to a mirrorless" or "they did it because they don't want to take wind off the sails of the DFA* 50" )) just an observation.

Looks like a great, tight prime.

My lens cabinet is pretty full except for a long telephoto... but if I had a K1 I'd definitely consider getting one for a walk around lens.

But that's one of the beauties of this little 35/2 lens -- you certainly would be able to squeeze it in at one of the shelf corners!

OK where's the obvious 31 ltd. vs 35 ƒ2 discussion?

The DA35 2.4 is using the same optical formula, and is a lot cheaper. Here in EU, the FA35 2 was priced around 350 Euros a couple of years ago , and is now priced 600 Euros, that's super expensive.
If I would re-release such FA 35 lens, I'd be putting it into a ltd quality metal body, and obviously it's not done because it shouldn't compete with the now priced Euro 1500 FA 31ltd. Too expensive for what it is , for me.
