UK prices are £1,399.99 and £399.99 respectively.

Put the blame on... (no, not Mame!)

I am guessing the prices for de remaining SMC lenses will soon be dropping to below the introduction price in Europe. So keep an eye out for a deal. It won't last long.

put a £ sign in front of those numbers and you've gut the UK prices - just checked SRS

Thanks @ffking and @Mistral75 for the info. I'm sorely tempted, and yet I tend to agree with @D1N0 that remaining stocks of the old FA35/2 will probably drop in price. I guess I'll wait to see if the new lens really is just HD coatings and updated body styling before I decide. If the focus ring damping is improved, that might sway me, since I'm not completely enamoured with the feel of my FA50/1.4 in manual focusing. It's OK, but no more than that.

I came so close to pre-ordering this new lens from SRS, but I guess I should temper my eagerness until the first credible reviews appear...

Don't worry the usual suspects are getting their scripts written at this moment!
DPR has posted an announcement of the two lenses, fairly objective and straightforward. The sniping and bashing has started in the comments. Yawn.

I can assure you that the KP was not meant as a replacement for the K-3 at any point. I was under NDA at the time and was asked for my input as a photographer on various aspects during its development. It's just a side model made to go with the Limiteds.

I wasn't under NDA nor was I given such information, but I could've said and did say the same thing.
It's quite obvious.

HD PENTAX-FA 35mm f/2 - pre-ordered!

I am as fickle as fickle can be...

After my reasoning above, I've already buckled and pre-ordered the HD PENTAX-FA 35mm f/2 from SRS after all My first brand new Pentax lens in two years plus...

I know, I know... I might have got a relative bargain with the original (and probably just as good) FA35/2 in the next few weeks, but what the heck... You're only young once, and I'm not even that any more Besides, I have a few things I'm about to sell, and they will adequately cover the cost of the new lens with dinner money to spare.

I'm kind of stoked to be buying a brand new lens with an aperture ring

Alas, there is no announcement yet on the Ricoh Imaging Canadian site... maybe their webmaster couldn't start the computer in the cold weather.

Based on the relative prices of the other recent lenses (e.g., D-FA*) I would guess that the Canadian prices will be in the ballpark of CAD $1,900 and $500-600.

Would of it been to much effort to update the motor as well. I don't think that the HD coatings will change the character of this lens which seems to be fairly well regarded. I suppose if it's quite inexpensive they might sell some. This seems to be an attempt to just release something for full frame.
More than likely they have to run a batch of lenses so they changed the coating formula and color of the barrel. No sinister intent here.

Thanks, and I certainly will I only have APS-C in Pentax gear, but due to the aperture control I'll be able to use it in manual focus on my A7 MkII with sstop-down-capable adapter(A7 MkII is only 24MP vs K-'s 36MP, but should still be a worthwhile test)
