I think that certainly some people would expect quiet-focusing lenses but I don't know whether that's a prevalent view amongst users of other brands, especially concerning small prime lenses in general and this lens in particular. For some people, screw-drive could be a show-stopper, while others would
prefer an in-lens drive but might be willing to live with screw drive.
@reh321, our posts didn't refer to the situations in which users would demand quiet lenses, such as weddings and theatres as mentioned elsewhere in this thread. However, I would think that the new FA 35/2 almost certainly wouldn't be a primary lens in those settings, if used at all, so the
practical issue of focusing noise might be moot. Of course, there are a number of "very quiet" lenses under the Pentax brand.
What percentage of other users do you think would preclude Pentax because of the screw-driven lens families? Besides anecdotal accounts, I think that any recent valid surveys -- if they exist -- would help us to understand the possible aversion to the screw-drive and the Pentax brand.
