Looks like my Sigma 8-16 will be my goto APS-c UWA for along time. I was curious, but I'm already set up for APS-c UWA.
And I don't find 35mm as focal length all that appealing. My 35s are my least used lenses.

Maybe the next announcment will be more to my liking. <cough> 18-35 ƒ4 FF zoom or 20-24mm ff prime </cough>.

Wow, there's just no pleasing some people.

Well, I was very pleased with the the DFA*50mm. Right now I have a Pentax camera and two lenses that deliver great performance - the new 50, and the DFA* 70-200mm. Unfortunately by comparison all the other lenses underperform when it comes to autofocusing and overall control, to the extent that I not use them (unless for specific requirements, e.g. 100mm macro, 15-30mm etc).

Now I want more lenses that can perform at this level. As I basically said in my other comment, there are two kinds of pentax users - those that are buying new glass and those that are happy with what they have, or mainly buy second hand. I think that this lens will mainly appeal to the second group, so I hope Pentax haven't sunk a lot of their R&D effort into it. That said, maybe they think it will be a decent seller in Japan, and maybe it was easy for them to do.

If you have been pleased with the rate of new lenses etc released by Pentax, then that's your business.

Yes - the Pentax 100mm macro is still the same optical design from the 1980s, isn't it? - and that's a very nice lens.
While I agree that there are 1980s lenses that perform very fine, what you're saying concerning the 100mm Macro is quite mistaken. The A version from 1985 was a 7-7 construction, the F and FA were 8-9 (identical) and the two DFA versions were still 8-9 but clearly not identical (see Pentax Short Telephoto Prime Lenses | The K-Mount Page).

They're upping their game a bit on sample images - nothing stellar, but some nice ones

sigma 8-16 is a beautiful lens. I have mine since 2013 and is definitely part of my top3.
With 35 ltd they are very good reasons to stick to APS-C

FA28 iwas not better. 6 apertures blades and softer than F28.
So how do you know your copy was good when it wasn't good? The F was optically the same as the not-so-great A28.

If 11-18 is very sharp in the whole frame at f5.6 an f8, "flareless" and I manage to find European price than it will be probably my next buy (wallet just started to run away).

Don't worry the usual suspects are getting their scripts written at this moment!

Canikosonic are releasing their new line up of lenses for their MILC FF cameras, (50s, 35s etc.) since Pentax do not have mirrorless at the moment ... Now it's Pentax's turn. They just want to be relevant, and hopefully continue keeping their base customers from leaving.

Seriously?? That's less than the current UK price for the old FA35/2! If the new 35 really is priced like that, I may well be in the queue...
