The 11-18 shines... images are impeccable, amazing net colors. Having moved to FF K1/II, very unlikely to buy that lens unfortunately. Aerobright is excellent.
The new FA35 2, tiny, tempting. Have too many k mount glass already, the 28-105 and 24-70 will do, I'll pass on the new old 35 f2 and still be waiting for 20mm f4 (Star?) and fast 85mm (Star?).

What is that "heater" all about, regarding the HD DA 11-18 lens?
Is this something that Pentax (Ricoh) actually has in store?

Alas, there is no announcement yet on the Ricoh Imaging Canadian site... maybe their webmaster couldn't start the computer in the cold weather.

Based on the relative prices of the other recent lenses (e.g., D-FA*) I would guess that the Canadian prices will be in the ballpark of CAD $1,900 and $500-600.
Cdn 1900$ for the 11-18 lens? Really?

DPR has posted an announcement of the two lenses, fairly objective and straightforward. The sniping and bashing has started in the comments. Yawn.

Hmmmmm, DPR & PF do have something in common.... I knew it

I'm looking forward to the 11-18 and the K3 replacement, I already have an old 35mm around here somewhere but haven't used it in years.

I wish they updated FA35 to DFA35WR. But nevertheless, this minor update still put smile on my face
FA35 is a very good lense.

I have the existing FA35/2 and I really like it. The only real complaints I could have about the image quality are hexagonal bokeh and CA. If this has new coatings and rounded blades, it should improve on both of those points. If users want something more upscale, Sigma makes the 35/1.4 in K-mount, so there are other options. This is genuinely tiny by modern standards.
The FA 35 f2 is a really good lens. It's sharp wide open and while it might have some CA issues on higher resolution sensors it really is a quality optic. If pentax did recoat it with HD coating and change the aperture blades, I agree there wouldn't be much to complain about with this lens. The only problem would be why would you buy the FA31?

DPR being DPR they headlined the post with the FA35/2 so most of the comments criticize screw drive and ask for modern lenses from Pentax. The 11-18 posts mostly question the apparent price but aren’t negative.

Now knowing the HD 35mm FA F2 is real... I am going to have to put my money where my mouth is and give my K1 II another fast, excellent prime... I am still game for the DFA 85 this year... I also have my eye on the other wide angle they have road mapped for a million years from now to go with my fisheye 12mm Rokinon.

Will be preordering at 400 bucks, this is a good value... Plus will be lighter on the K1 II when I want a fast prime!

To their credit, they didn't even point out the fact that the HD FA 35/2 has screw-drive AF. They could have made a meal out of that but didn't.

I agree, though, that it would have been nice to give the FA* 11-18/2.8 more prominence. A separate announcement would have been nice, along with an explanation of how that lens fits in within the already excellent APS-C line up from Pentax.

I thought that there was a little joke there. Besides of grandma or pa giving their good undies away and their gift not being appriciated.

Well played, DPR!

By the way, the following comment has seven likes already, and sums up DPR: "The negativity on these forums is toxic. Nothing is good unless is Sony."

It's a good question. If they're updating an old 30-something mm lens with new coatings, why not make it the semi-legendary 31mm instead of the 35mm f/2? One reason might be that the updated 31mm would be almost $1000 new. Maybe they're throwing a bone to people who are having problems with everything new and full frame costing a grand or two.

Edit: Actually the 31mm currently sells for $1000 new. An updated version would probably be $1200+.
IF they update the 31 Limited it won’t happen until the current stock is exhausted. More than likely the stock of FA35/2 ran out - and rather than building some thousands of SMC lenses they tweaked the barrel and maybe hood, added the modern coatings and voila! - a budget 35 in the catalog,
