The 11-18 is simply impeccable. That is what I call world class glass. Focus clamp is a great idea too so you don't have to tape your focus ring for astro.

Hopefully I'll be able to afford it in 6-8 months.

I love the fact that the accommodation for a lens heater was also true. Rumors seemed pretty spot on with this one.

IF they update the 31 Limited it won’t happen until the current stock is exhausted. More than likely the stock of FA35/2 ran out - and rather than building some thousands of SMC lenses they tweaked the barrel and maybe hood, added the modern coatings and voila! - a budget 35 in the catalog,
This seems likely. Probably didn't cost them much to do a fascia overhaul. I don't think the lens looks particularly modern or pretty. And I don't really have a problem with the 90s look of my SMC FA. all I know is the images are lovely and the lens performs well both on film, digital, APS-C and FF.

These two lenses were promoted by Pentax Australia today on Facebook.

I must say, I am tempted by the updated 35mm. Not so much for digital, but maybe as an always-on lens for my Z-20 or MZ-S. I think the price was a bit high for the old one in the last years. I have an FA 20-35mm, though, so I am not sure if I will bite. But the new price looks nice.

There was already the very budget DA 35 f2.4 AL: plastic fantastic but a decent lens and also FF OK by all accounts.

So now Pentax has four 30-mm ish full-frame compatible lenses that will be floating around stores for a while:

-the FA 31 f1.8,
-the DA 35 f2.4 AL,
-the FA 35 f2 (current model),
-the FA 35 f2 (new model).

Plus the Sigma 35 f1.4 still seems to be in production too.

Even Canon and Nikon users must be jealous

Now we need some wider (~20-28mm) full-frame primes pls Pentax.

To be fair, the 35mm F2.4 was never considered a full frame lens, nor marketed as such. Sure, it works decently well, but I doubt many people with a K-1 are buying it just because of that uncertainty.

Yes. Perhaps a refresh of the FA*24mm.

DA35/2.4 is not a fantastic lens, IQ is just ok, corner are soft even closed down and 6 aperture blades is really outdated...

FWIW, when tested on APS-C, lenstip.com found the vignetting to be similar wide open between the lenses: DAL 35 - -0.99 EV (29%) vs FA 35 0.79 EV (24%).

The visual samples I've seen of the DAL 35 on FF don't seem to show much of an issue in normal use.

I think the 11-18 is crazy expensive. Overhere the most expensive aps-c lens from Pentax.

To my surprise the dfa15-30 is even 300 euro more expensive. When did this happen? With 1695 euro it is even more expensive then the Tamron generation 2 design.

The 35mm has a good price I think. The older fa is 569 overhere, wich is to expensive (but some years ago it was 799 euro).

From the Star lens special site (http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/star_lens/special/sp_da11-18/):

QuoteQuote:
Along with the smc PENTAX-DA★ 16-50mm F2.8ED AL[IF] SDM and the smc PENTAX DA★ 50-135mm F2.8ED[IF] SDM, this lens completes the large-aperture zoom lens lineup...
No. No pentax! The 16-50 do not complete the large-aperture zoom lens lineup. The 16-50 is an old lens suited for K10D with bad corner quality and lot of CA and it need to be replaced in priority with a modern 16-50, 18-50 or 17-70 lens with a fast motor and top notch IQ corner to corner.

p.s. too bad there is no development story for the 11-18 on the special site.
