Maybe this is a legal thing, that it isn't allowed to take pictures of surroundings and people without permission.
Could be, but why would it be permitted if connected to a 5.2G high power base station?

If 1" and 20 Mpix this is becoming serious.

I've made rough size comparison in Photoshop (same size of shutter button gives also same overall height - still i think it is a long shot). 1" sensor looks possible

Thank you for this comparison. Theta Z1 is a bit larger than Theta V, thicker and its lens is bigger. The bigger lens confirms the larger sensor (said to be 1"). The extra thickness could be related to heat dissipation: 5K instead of 4K?

Bigger sensor ==> extra thicknes, as the sensor surface is perpendicular to the lens.

Ah! I didn't realise that the sensor was unique and horizontal in the Theta cameras. I thought there were two back-to-back vertical sensors, one behind each lens.

Neither did I, that's pretty neat:

Thank you for the video. So there are two vertical sensors but perpendicular to the outer part of the lenses; the larger the sensors, the thicker the camera.

Well, if 1" color me excited

A lot of goodness can come out of those 1" sensors as Sony has shown. Please, please have this thing made compatible with the dslr cameras as was demonstrated several years ago: a demonstration showed a Theta riding on top of the flash shoe, and high res still images could be embedded into the Theta capture in some way, so that you could have zoomable and discreet details of the scene. This would be a killer real estate app, and I could use it in one or 2 aspects of my museum documentation work----potential killer app there too.

Looks like a hinged cover at the bottom. Hopefully for a removable battery.
And weird how they've added an IR blaster. Could be useful to change TV channels tho
