They are mostly wildlife shooters here, so the extra MP for cropping) and frame rate are probably more important than to the average shooter.

Anyway, for the D-FA85, the date of Christmas for Pentaxians is the same as for everyone else, it's December 25th and not in July or August. You got to write your letter to Santa and be nice with you wife/husband, and maybe your D-FA85 will be at the bottom of the Christmas tree.

Looks like the same lens case as was shown last year or earlier this year.

Will the 85mm lens made of a stretch and lift of DFA*50 lens elements (that's how Sigma turn their 150-400mm lens into a 150-600mm, the last 200mm are usually not that sharp). After all , focal length is related to the distance between the diaphragm and the sensor.
If anyone thinks the 85 is going to be anything other than a lens that is at the top of the performance scale, they have obviously not been paying attention. Pentax is not SIG-nificant MA-lfunction.
Focal length is related to the distance from the rear nodal point to the sensor. Where the diaphragm is located has nothing to do with focal length.

Looks like they are waiting for time on the production line.
Many people who do not understand how modern manufacturing works, will not understand how true this statement is. Since everything seems to worship the "just in time" gods, it is amazing how any glitch in the schedule really screws things up. It cost a delay of almost one year in the release of the K1.

With most cameras being manufactured by third party companies who rent out time on their assembly lines, moving around in the schedule it a very expensive proposition. In the mid 90's there were name brand cameras coming off assembly lines in China with the "Made in Japan" stamp on them. Japan had passed special laws to allow this to happen.

The equipment, facilities and trained staff necessary to manufacture 21,000,000 interchangeable lens cameras in 2012 won't have completely evaporated and with 2019 poduction well behind the nearly 11 million ILC's built in 2018, lack of production capacity is quite implausible. Lens production doesn't flucuate as much as camera production, but the trendline is very similar, so the demand exceeding supply argument doesn't hold water for lenses either. New products are being delayed because the downward trend in the industry is scaring Ricoh management from spending new money to produce them.

So is a Christmas release this year for the HD DFA*85 a reasonably solid bet? I've been too busy taking private family photos to take any notice of rumours recently. I'll start building a war chest of say about €1800?

Yup - it's definitely due to happen - on the 25th Dec, so I'm reliably informed.

Who knows?

I would bet the DFA *85 won't be released til spring of next year, but I would be glad to be proven wrong. I would guess pricing of 1600 dollars/Euros.

Nikon's new 85mm f1.4 is 1800 dollars, but Canon's 85mm f1.2 for mirrorless is 2600 dollars, so that gives a ballpark figure, but I guess we'll see, won't we?

Some of us are rooting for the 70-200 F4 before the 85.

This will definitely be my next lens to replace my 77 ltd. The longer it takes, the more time I can save??

When looking at the cross section of the D FA* 50 you can see just how much work goes into one of these things. You really can't complain about the cost.

We really do live in an age of privilege when the biggest problem we have is choice.

I think this photo was taken in Osaka. In the months after CP+, Ricoh displayed the same exhibits at the Ricoh Imaging Square Osaka. It makes sense, because CP+ is not great for residents in west Japan to get to.

???????????? ???????? ??GR?DFA*85mm???????????? / ?????? / ??????? Ricoh Imaging News / Beautiful Photo-life | RICOH IMAGING

As for release timing, they mentioned that the DFA 85mm was at about the same stage of development as the DFA 50mm was when they showed a similar mockup. It would imply a release at the next CP+. I think Christmas is a bit optimistic, but optimistic is the best way to be. My impression was that the DFA70-200/4 is still likely to come before this.

Looks like Ricoh decided to go top class with those primes and don't care much about the time to achieve that goal. Quality priority #1, release date priority #2. It's bold.
