I was tired of waiting for FDA*85mm f1.4 and I used the money for it well. Some days ago I bought a Pentax 645z and a pair of lenses for it (FA 55mm f2.8 and FA 150mm f2.8).

After long consideration it was an easy solution, because I am also shooting with an old Pentax-A 85mm f1.4 (and K-1 II) so far and and I am fully satisfied with this lens.

For something that was developed, the wait is quite long - with nothing else of similar caliber presented for FF in the meantime.

Pentax: This lens was developed as a "new-generation star lens", which drastically reviewed internal standards in order to respond to future camera performance improvements

What went wrong? Was it developed or not? Bad marketing wording?

Th adoption of the D850 based on causal observations around the park has been pretty remarkable.
These production under-estimates were not unheard of. I recall Adam posting around the time the D850 was released the pre-order was 50.000 units at just one of the two New York online retailers. Pentax reportedly had to push back K-1 a full year because 645z pre-order was 20,000 units; the initial planned production for the entire run was reportedly only 10,000 units. IIRC planned production of K-1 was 7,000 units a month. It was backordered for months until they caught up.

I was #6 in line for the 50/1.4 and I still had to wait a week longer than a few people here. (Recall Ricoh sold out the pre-release production before the first shipments were made).

Probably nothing on the internet to find on this claim. It is also simply not true, since 2014 and 2015 did not have a spike in sales for Ricoh-Imaging. So there was no extra ordinair sales of 645Z. It's a mythe, created by superfans.

I looked at what he said - the "CFO of Ricoh" was just made up (to avoid stronger words which would be entirely appropriate).
Instead, we have an official press release:
"Notice Regarding Delivery Schedule of Medium Format Digital SLR Camera “PENTAX 645Z”
Thank you for your patronage of our products. Regarding the “PENTAX 645Z”
scheduled to be released on June 27, 2014, we have received a reservation that greatly exceeds the initial assumption. It may take some time before delivery.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to customers waiting for this product."
?RICOH IMAGING

Of course, I can offer no precise numbers except the initial production volume of 400 units per month.

So if they had 2.000 pre-orders. .....well that is already 5 months of production and that would be seen as an enourmous number of customers. Now that I can believe.

20.000 645Z orders with lenses is a 200 million USD sale.....you can't hide such a number in the financials of a small company as Ricoh-Imaging.

Maybe someone just misread for one 0 and all is fine.

After the pre-order ofcourse are normal orders coming, since on the internet reviews appear and create interest.

See the difference between us is that you pick your cherry's from the internet that build on the believes you have. I actually try to check things.

From the financial report of the fiscal year ending 31th march 2015. That would be the year of the introduction and as you believe mass sale of the 645Z.

Other (Sales down 3.2% to ¥116.9 billion) Sales in the Other segment decreased by 3.2% as compared to the previous corresponding period, to ¥116.9 billion. Sales decreased in the camera business as compared to the previous corresponding period.

He tries to check things... like when checking if I'm really Asahiman, or if I'm using more than one account per site?

And I "pick my cherry's" by providing an actual press release stating precisely what I said? His morals are upside down.

We're not stupid - we can see lousy tactics like a strawman. This isn't about the 645Z increasing YoY sales by itself; but available production capacity. I'm not sure if to believe Asahiman's claim, but it is not implausible.

Anniversary day is in November. Enough time to check out the Canon offering in more detail. New 85 design, small footprint and shake reduction. All that used to be Pentax features. Nikon opted for a new 105, the 85s are not that tempting. I don’t care about Sigma or cameras without mirror. It’s a small world and Pentax could play a role. But that is just my perspective.

From the drop in postings it looks like most of us have given up on this lens. What are the chances that it will appear on the anniversary?

I’d say slim to none, but CP+ is another story. I hear there’s supposed to be some kind of new camera there too.
