Hah. This lens might weigh as much as a new baby, too.
With a head as big as a baby's?

Yep, you are right. They made me buy the new 50 and a 77 and I originally wanted the 85. I will buy the 85 as well and Pentax earns triple happiness. Kudos to the marketing team.
That's high end market research. Customer wants one lens and buys three.

(Laughs) What a gift you are to their marketing guys, Zapp, they dangle anything out to you, you snatch it and get reeled in.

We have plenty of forum members for whom $100 for a lens is hard, let alone $1000. And Pentax releases like the rest of the industry are no longer very interested in the budget end.

Do post some more pics when you can. I think you're another one who's gone on record as saying how good the Fat Fifty is, the 85 and 35 should be more of the same.

Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by "budget", but Fuji recently released a 155g, 16mm F/2.8 WR lens that makes the DA15 look a little old, and they're selling it for $400 (which is $50 less than the current price of the DA15)... With the fairly aggressive pricing on the X-T30, that kind of caught my eye.

KP special with wooden grip?
This sounds a lot like those Hasselblad wooden grip cameras that got ridiculed into oblivion :/

True, but it also sounds like the 67 medium format camera, which was awesome...

And I doubt it will cost double the parent camera like the Hasselblad did...

I would wait for some optical tests. I have never sern so much CA on a lens, even at f5.6, as with this Fuji.
But I agree, Fuji is so hard trying to copy what Pentax/Ricoh - limiteds, GR, affordable 645... - that I can see the attraction of their products. But for me they just don't cut it.

I bought the Fat Fifty and I’ll buy the Adipose Eighty Five Weighty Eighty.

But for zooms I’m sticking with DA*.

The Pentax Limiteds seem to be a dying breed. Emphasis is on big, fast lenses. I hope the promised wide angle FF prime takes a different path. I want a compact lens in the spirit of the DA 15 and 21 Limiteds as an alternative to my 15-30. Scale the size to cover the FF sensor. It can be a slow lens; f/4 is plenty. I fear that when we finally see a mockup it will be f1.4 and as large as the 15-30.

That's just my opinion. The market for small lenses like the Limiteds may have dried up because photographers who prioritize size already went to micro 4/3 or other small mirrorless.

Some of us purchased a KP and a few DA zooms, which gives an overall smaller package.

"Weighty Eighty" rolls of the tongue better

As for the zooms, I suspect you're right about the ultra-wides, but the DA*16-50 and DA*50-135 are no match for their bigger cousins. Certainly smaller though!

I think your scaling is a little out, but that's still one hell of a front element. Filter size might almost equal focal length!

The new Fuji 16 doesn't seem to be great optically, but then again neither is the da 15 ltd. Problem is that the Fuji is more quiet, f2.8, similar size WR and ... cheaper. Both lenses are more than capable of nice photos when used within their limitations but pricing and features are starting to look troublesome for Pentax. I'm unlikely to switch system but aside from the evf Fuji sure is putting out tempting stuff.

Sure, it is the EVF, higher dependence on in camera correction of lenses amongst others that does not make it too attractive for me. But they are clearly targeting the same user group as Pentax with the limiteds. I think a comparable bundle costs the same in both systems, but I like the little Pentax implementations of SR, Astrotracer etc.
11-18 was absolutely necessary for Pentax, now an update of 16-50 and maybe new motor for 50-150 would bring the system back on top, everything above that can be done with DFA, there size difference would not be significant.
But there is nothing wrong with the limiteds, except for a slightly higher price for some, but this could be corrected.
