The price named in the thread is lower than I expected too.
Lets hope all of this will be true.

So hopefully at least two announcements at CP+. Only a few weeks off at this point.

Can't wait for a FA*85mm/1.4 comparison to the D FA*85mm/1.4. I'll need to have a lot of justification to get another 85mm lens.

Wasn't that for the 70-200 f4?

Yes, but that is what I thought we were talking about. I don't know that anyone knows the price of the DFA * 85 except that Asahi Man said cryptically that it would be expensive.

But this thread is about DFA*85/1.4, most of the time, and nowhere in the last posts I assumed the 70-200/4 was meant. However, I would have wondered if it would have been announced at a price lower than the DFA*50/1.4...

[edit: yeah, it has been about the *prime lens... now the 70-200 arrived here too...]

But this is not serious.
For whom another 70-200, in addition with F4
We have from Tamron, Sigma, Pentax from f2.8
Another nail into the Pentax casket
I see no nails or casket. Are you sure you're in the correct forums? This is a Pentax enthusiast website

Some folks here have wanted a smaller, lighter 70-200. There have been numerous discussions and comments about it since the K-1 was released. And it's a popular focal length / max aperture choice on other platforms, so no reason why it shouldn't be popular on K-mount also. Plus, it arguably replaces the DA*60-250 f/4, which many have converted to full frame by removing the baffle...

Not at all. There are many people who value having the smaller size (under 800 grams) that an f4 lens with this focal length will bring to the table. I own the 70-200 f2.8 and it is a nice lens, but it is big. Having a 70-200 f4 with fast DC auto focus, weather sealing, and ends up with a street price of 900 to 950 USD is something that brings value to the brand.

Obviously this should not be the only lens that Pentax releases, but I think it should sell well and generate revenue -- probably quite a bit more than the wide angle prime that I am looking for.

Honestly, zooms sell better than primes and while we all like to talk about primes that "we need," most photography is done with zooms. In that respect, Pentax is pretty set. They should probably come out with a 24-70 f4 and a 70-300 variable aperture lens too, but most of the bread and butter zooms are already there.

There aren't any shred of evidence to suggest that Pentax is in a casket. I simply can't understand why some people are so negative. Recently, somebody claimed that the K-new is delayed. It can't be delayed, because it hasn't been announced. What comes first, the horse or the carriage?

There are potential Pentax customers searching the internet for relevant information. What do you think they will do when they read such nonsense? Who is to blame if they buy something else based on what they have read here?

Think twice or trice before you post unsubstantiated claims.

If we are not into communism, the market is going to be the benchmark. That is recent similar camera manufacturer lenses' initial prices:

Canon 85/1.4: 1,599 EUR
Sony 85/1.4: 1,999 EUR

No other comparable lenses on the market. Either ages old and pre multi price hikes or cheap 3rd party stuff which simply has to be 40-60% less than exact same speced stuff from OEMs in order to sell.

So anything between 1,399 and 1,799 EUR sounds like a reasonable assumption undercutting the competition (85s always are more expensive than the 50s and the latter DFA* started at 1,199 EUR). If it is true that only a small batch is going to be produced initially then it is likely to be rather on the upper end.
