Good to see at least a 3-D printed reference for the 85. Maybe they’ll be farther along by Photokina (May 8-11, 2019). I wonder if there is more to the camera than a wooden grip.

The custom KP has already been discussed HERE. It's interesting to see that Ricoh might be officially on board with it.

And ooooh, that 85!

No Photokina this year.

I'm guessing it's just an appearance thing.

(*) if they really meant to make these changes for this model

I think the latest is that Photokina is off, presumably another casualty of the state of the camera industry.

Pushed back to 2020.

Is it a flash housing? I see no gaps so perhaps a GPS? Maybe an updated processor for that ever desirable faster write speed and larger buffer? Or is it a pump fake to hide the K-3 replacement.

After shooting with the DFA* 70-200/2.8 and DFA* 50/1.4 and being incredibly happy with the results, I can tell you that I'll be definitely be on the DFA* 85/1.4 waiting list.

When it comes to the continual 'Ricoh won't do this/that whining problem', I'm definitely part of the problem. All I wish is that they'd release a DFA* 200/2 or 300/2.8 with matching TC's to accompany the DA 560/5.6. Until then, I guess I'll just have to patiently wait. :P

I always thought the silver KP with the DA20~40 was sexy but that black combo with the aggressive prism design is gripping. Pentax has fabulous camera body designers.

February 2018, a similar photo was posted on FaceBook.

I cannot read Japanese, but my understanding was that this was a prototype of the original KP, but I could be wrong about that; this is why I am a little skeptical about this photo. It would be nice for a KP+, or whatever.

I think the story is that design was a body modification home-brewed by a Pentax employee [per Mistral75 below, the designer of the K-30]. I’d guess he showed it to the design team and they used it for the special edition KP Custom. The image appears to be from an official Ricoh Imaging Press Release.

I saw that re=post of that image last week and was just spitballing ideas since I suspect that the "Pentax is doomed!" Crowd will be arriving soon.
