All of this stuff with the KP sort of reminds me of the cosmetic "Boy Racer" modifications done to many Asian built compact cars like the Honda Civic. Not a lot of functionality but strong in cosmetic customization like the clip on cover for the prism housing. Anybody ever consider what the custom wooden grip would look like after a year or so of moderate use being held by a sweaty hand??

The same as the wooden Grip A for an LX after a year of use.

Why would the coating wear off? Especially urethane, which is more durable than shellac (did people urethane wood in 1980?).

I’ve seen 67 wooden grips where the wear from gripping is obvious, but they aren’t chipped or flaking. The rub marks are character.

*What* is the purpose of that pentaprism cover? Except being the world’s first hotshoe cover that you won’t lose on your first day out with your new camera

I don't know Fuji but that is archaic, how can you have auto, program mode, shutter priority etc?
Its a working electronic controlled aperture, same thing as assigning aperture to the back wheel on any dslr, only with distinctive clicks. I prefer changing aperture on the lens barrel than body itself

Now the details are out, I'm definitely *not* a fan of the pimped KP. On the other hand, it's nice to know Pentax hasn't completely given up on its quirky personality

The DFA*85 will be a home run I'm sure.

In other news, I just got my hands on my DA*11-18. First impressions are very good indeed....

Three months later, I still have mine on the KP - of course, I haven't used flash yet {not do I intend to}.

Well, FWIW, I think the KP Custom looks really good! Looking at the pics, they have it on display in multiple colors, so they might actually be serious about producing this... I think that would be great, but I'd really like to hear something about the timeframe for next gen top of the line APS-C body.

Additional pictures, these ones taken by somebody from the Fujiya Camera shop フジヤカメラ店 (@fujiyacamera) | Twitter

There are also Pentax caps for those who would prefer such things.
