Back to reality, what are the odds on the 85mm f1.4 being announced the last week of November.

What are the odds of anyone here actually knowing the answer to that?

About the same as Ricoh actually releasing the lens this year. I will be surprised if we see the D-FA* 85mm before Summer 2020.

A sign of people expecting the HD Pentax-D FA☆ 85mm f/1.4 to be announced in a not too distant future, definitely.

Ricoh have no power over the second-hand market of Pentax lenses.

Has there been any educated guesses about what the new lens will cost? Are we talking about > $1500 US price?

Better than no chance, but barely.

DFA *85 was in my wish list. But now with my left elbow hurting when I carry something heavy, I don't think I'll enjoy having one. Man, I like the idea of having that lens. I guess it will just be in my dreams.

I would say around $1,499 considering the following RRPs:
  • HD Pentax-D FA★ 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW: $1,199
  • Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art: $949
  • Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art: $1,199
1,199 x (1,199 ÷ 949) ≈ 1,515.

Applying the calculation to the Canon RF lenses gives around $1408 for the D FA★ 85, but that's because both are more than twice the price ($2699 and $2299) of the respective Sigmas (and almost twice of the Pentax, huh). Applying it to the Nikon Z 1.8 primes, the Pentax would be $1600, but the fixed costs make such calculations very easy to skew.

The Canon RF lenses are f/1.2, not f/1.4.

And the Nikons are 1.8. We almost have a linear correlation there that points to $1500
