Every now and then I lust after one of the FA* 85's, but then I think, no, just hold tight. Must be getting closer.

Ricoh have no power over the second-hand market of Pentax lenses.
If they released an HD-FA* 200/4 macro lens for $1500, they'd surely change the second-hand market value for FA* 200/4 macro lenses.

P.S.: I know that my price is a joke; it is meant to be. Please don't tell me what it would really cost in today's money! I don't want to know!!!

Today’s money, I’d be happy to find one in yesterday’s money : Probably won’t see the likes of that lens again, and those that have one are keeping a close eye on them.

i thought the price of fa*400mm would drop after the release of the dfa 150-450, but that hasn't been the case. strange since the 450 as good as it is! as for pricing of a new 200mm macro... hard to say, but i imagine it would be less than the dfa*70-200. i'd rather have an hd wr 50 macro and new wr extension tubes.

A fairly large portion of their market will never believe a prime can be as good as a zoom, so they can get away with their pricing.

The FA* 400/5.6 is fairly scarce and therefor probably does not feel much pressure from the DFA 150-450.

So, today when adjusted for inflation, that would be about $2,500 for the FA*200/4.

Some amazing lenses were still in the Pentax catalogue in 2002. Ricoh should do a limited re-release of some of those classics.

In todays prices, the current DFA 70-200 looks cheap relative to the 2002 price of the FA★ 80-200 f2.8.

Less than that. €1,599 in April 2002 is €2,051 in December 2019. Subtract 17% of VAT (2002 rate in Germany) -> €1,753 excl. VAT. That's $1,949.
