My quote of 800g was based on Sigma's 20/1.4, which weighs in at 950g. That is much bigger than anything I'd care to own
for a 20mm prime. I can deal with a bit of distortion along the edges of a wide; I call it character.
I use the Olympus Zuiko 18mm f3.5 with a Leitax adapter. 250grams (8.8 oz). It is small, it is compact, it is distortion free, it is a jewel. It is fantastic.

Humm... for me SMC Pentax A 20mm f/2.8 is still the best available compact UWA for K-1.
Though the Sigma DG EX 20 f/1.7 (f/1.8 commercially) holds fiercely the night shooting competition.

But we lost almost completely this thread's sujects

Well... at least KP related.... and a bit silly.... but I'm a 1/3rd way through attempting a custom marri wood grip for my KP...... I think it might just be a bit beyond my wood working skills.... but why let little things like that hold one back.... I have about a meter of Marri (a Western Australian Hardwood).... so may jag a grip that works/fits sometime in 2020 (my pizza oven will probably be fired with failed attempts for awhile).

Just curious, using a hardwood is a much heavier option over the stock grips?

Well, the stock grips are very light, so almost anything would add to the weight, but no one has ever claimed this variant to be a working one - maybe they expect most sales to be Collectors.

No real difference.... there isn't much wood in it.... thats sorta the problem.... the rear is a quite complex hollowed out shape to fit ... I'd be surprised if there was 20 grams extra..... IF I get it to work I'll weigh it properly.... big if on purpose..... because it just bitch slapped me.

Thanks for the 20mm info. Agree with a revamped 15. I still use the A 15 3.5 on the K-1.
Thanks,
barondla
How does the A15/3.5 work with the K1. While I understand it's a "cult" Zeiss/Pentax collaboration lens, the performance is very different. Even though it's not highly rated optically, it's supposed to have some unique IQ. I'd be interested to know your experiences. Thanks.

Adding to your query, Is this 15mm f/3.5 supposed to be rectilinear? and how rectilinear is it really?

I've had very little time to shoot the A15 f3.5 with the K-1. I did post this example in the K-1 thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/attachments/190-pentax-k-1/459175d156423...lreddoorpf.jpg. Looks decent to me.

It is rectilinear. Haven't performed tests to see how well it keeps lines straight. It does a better job than the Pentax 10-17 fish zoom!

Thanks,

This is also my dream. I wonder why Ricoh/Pentax hasn't already taken advantage of the brilliantly designed and constructed DA* 20-40ltd casing! I would love more lenses that look and feel like this gem but designed for FF...

Don't forget that the modern team is only so large - can work on only so much at a time.

I don’t forget that. I just thought they would release the DFA*50/1.4 for example in a casing that would be unique to Pentax and quite classic/vintage like the 20-40 lens shape. But then Pentax representatives have said they will release more limiteds in the future, so then we might see something different like what I’m discussing about...

What about the old MF 'KA-type' Sigma 18/3.5 ? Any feedback?

I would love it if they would release more "limiteds", but so far all we have seen are the large "perfect" lenses, which I believe contradicts the "limited" 'small is beautiful" concept.
