I am looking forward to this lense. If it is as good as the DFA 50 1.4 it might finally push my Fa 77 to stay on the analogue camera.
You’ve only got one digital camera?

It's really quite appealing, and the rendering is lovely. Don't think the new 85 can replace it, but perhaps supplement it.

An advantage of K-mount is that film cameras can share most {all but KAF4} lenses with digital cameras.

I even like my FA 77/1.8 Limited even better on my K3 than my K1.

Most probably there will be. When? Someday.

More seriously: more information should be made available at CP+ (late February).

To be considered a competitive option in the full frame market Pentax will have to develop a fast 85mm lens. We already have a fast 50mm and fast f/2.8 15~30mm and 70~200mm* zoom lenses and consumer/budget oriented 28~100mm range zoom lens. A fast 85mm lens only makes sense, so does a fast 24~28mm lens. Though I wouldn't complain at all if Pentax chose to expand upon the FA limited lens line. With a high quality, solid all metal bodied sub 31mm lens, or another lens over 77mm**, an unusual product alongside a rather standard lens line up offering would be a great contrast and a way to create renewed interest within in the industry in a classically Pentax way. I remember how the original announcement of the FA limited lenses created quite a bit of talk and discussion, the lenses definitely caused a stir among lens makers. To this day my colleagues see me working with the FA limited lenses in the studio and they remain impressed with not only their functional and aesthetic qualities, but also their optical performance on the K-1 as well.

* with a 70-200mm f/4 making an appearance on the lens roadmap.

** Some consider the D-FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro WR to be made in the spirit of the FA limited lenses, I consider the lack of an aperture ring to discredit this notion.

It is definerly as said. These 3 DFA* lenses are needed in lens portfolio, in order of making it professionally tempting. That DFA*85 is just around the corner.

What has been said about the limiteds. It might ve coming(new one?) I absolutelly love my FA 31 lim. I like my FA 77 too and FA 43 in some extent, but 31 is just amazing for what it is.

It seems likely the DFA *85 will be released in the second half of 2020.

It will be a big lens with nice edge sharpness, even wide open. It will also have relatively speedy auto focus -- similar to the DFA *50. It probably will have some LoCA as most fast lenses do have some of this (trust DP Review to bring this up if and when they mention this lens). It will be a pricy lens with cost probably in the 1500 to 1600 range. Canon and Nikon both have their 85mm f1.4 lenses priced there while Sony has theirs priced at 1800. Sigma, of course, is cheaper at 1100.

Predicting complaints, they will mainly center around size and price with many bringing up the fact that "Pentax has pushed Sigma away" and therefore they don't have the option of purchasing the Sigma 85 rather than the Pentax. None of this will change the fact that the DFA *85 will be a top flight lens and worth the price tag for those who need that focal length and don't enjoy the fringing the FA 77 brings to the table.

Let's see how long before this one makes its way around and shows up in a new post here about a new 22mm lens...

To have credibility, it’ll have to go around via Pentax Rumors, RH and Peta Pixel, before landing in DPR, and then it’ll be reported here, straight-faced.

I expect them to go around 1400, in between Sigma and the big guys (but closer to the big guys). Large and extremely well corrected but I agree, trust DPR to blow any imperfection out of proportion... if they don't pretend like the lens doesn't even exist; they've already done this with the DA* 11-18/2.8.
I think Pentax might put a lot of emphasis on making fantastic focus-to-OOF transitions like they did with the D FA* 50/1.4.

I have similar moments with my K-3 II versus K-1 II with the 77 and the 43. Neither focus particularly close, and if I'm chasing flowers, I prefer them on the crop sensor.
