I wish I could see a remake of the old lenses with PLM motors inside. I also would like to see improvements of the image quality in Pentax Super zooms.

Apparently use of PLM is rather limited, because in many lens designs, the focusing element is too massive.

True, but I predict a new standard budget DA zoom (18-55 range) with this autofocus motor technology. This with the 55-300 combo will be a perfect companion for the k-70 (and next APS-C bodies) and her video features.

I'm not sure about this, it's not like 18-50 DC WR RE is old and due replacement... I'd rather see PLM in plastic fantastic DA 50/1.8 and 35/2.4.

I like the PLM's focusing speed. That's why I would like to have it implemented on the coming lenses and the remake of the older ones if possible. A better lens quality on the super zooms plus PLM would be appreciated by a lot of us here. There are times when I don't feel like carrying 2 cameras. I try to avoid changing lenses particularly on a dusty environment. I would also like to have a lighter load when I travel. A good super zoom would be nice to have in these circumstances.

The DA 55-300 PLM only works on 2013 and later cameras. Is that a necessary consequence of PLM? If it is, it is an argument against implementing it in too many lenses, as owners of K5 and older will be disadvantaged. Or can PLM be paired with an aperture lever?

No, Paul, it is because it has a KAF4 electronic aperture mechanism, not because it has a PLM AF motor.

I sure hope so. I know people want to be able to use the new lenses with older cameras but at some point Pentax has to have a more effective mount. Right now that appears to be the KAF4.

The DA*11-18 for example isn't.

But a PLM AF lens like Totsmuyco is suggesting could be either. It supposedly works well with small amounts of glass.

PLM is a motor that drives the lens focusing. KAF4 is the mount.
