What if the new camera really is a digital LX replacement, only this time it offers autofocus *as long as the AF lens has a built-in motor*? I would want an uncrippled k-mount and an optional split-prism focusing screen, but what if Ricoh used this time as a chance to move away from screen mount AF in the body with a camera that is 1 step into the past while being 1 step towards the future?
Monochrome camera back plate module (replaces film roll) on Pentax LX / K1000 ?

For me it is credible.
Then share the source. Otherwise, it's speculative.

According to unverified sources, Ricoh Imaging are planning to make a big splash in the camera market by announcing a series of k mount Takumar like lenses that render only grayscale images when you mount them on cameras. The date of release isn't quite sure, but information leak from deep China would indicate that the trio of B&W limited lenses would be announced somewhere around April 2019. Anyone already heard about the rumor?

---------- Post added 05-03-19 at 17:43 ----------

Edit: again, according to the rumors, the lenses would also be available in black , silver for the lens body , with black & white or sepia image rendering (customers should be happy about the choice, of course, manual focus only).

Are you sure your an engineer?

I'm trying to work out in my head how the k-mount would talk to the meter in the digital back. Controls in general seems like a challenge unless it ends up being huge and silly to operate.

It would also depend on people showing up with nearly 20 year old and older cameras to have backs added to. Seems like a non-starter.

Mine was supposedly delivered on Monday, but when I opened the box it was empty.

No, but I am working on a camera with a built in flux capacitor.
People will just start complaining about how you’re using 1980s technology.

And then there’s all the arguments about relative merits of using a flux capacitor vs an oscillation overthruster...

True, but all I care about is being able to go back and capture the photos I missed the first time around.

I used to swear Vivitar made lenses that intentionally fringed red, just to make B&W contrast pop...

Joking aside, camera's recognize lenses already via chip... no reason a lens optimized for B&W couldn't trigger a user mode in the camera to flip to B&W jpg output or similar... I'd want the ability to over-ride of course, just so I could see how bad the lens worked in full color.

My K-50 can do that to any lens, what is the USP?

The next set of lenses in the roadmap will allow you to take a photo up to 10 seconds into the past. There'll be a rear dial allowing a selection of 2, 5 or 10 seconds. Manual focus only though. :P

Putting that 'black and white' thing aside... old-style, manual focus Takumar glass with optical formulas revised for current high-res digital would be awesome. Might be even possible to convince Cosina to collaborate...
