Pentax has made a (apparent) conscious decision to stay away from mirrorless smaller bodies for the moment so therefore, the flexibility of adding options, weight and features. I like that capability. The K-1 and the K-3ii, the past and current flagships had no flash on board, for example, nor a built in grip. It also keeps the price points down.
I like the Pentax approach presently, though I believe they will tweak the KP as the 'compact' alternative to the bigger bodies
