Following the hardware trends of Nikon and Sony, any genuine K-1 III leak would need to reveal:
- 42 or 46 MP (42MP since 2015 on A7RII/A7RIII, 45MP since 2017 on D850/Z7)
- more sophisticated AF (inc viewfinder face and eye-AF, 100+ AF points);
- fancy video options (inc 4K);
- extra metering intelligence (linked to AF for tracking);
- improved stabilisation;
- UHS-II and XQD media support;
- WiFi, BlueTooth support;
- something something touch screen, AI.

What’s the most modern APSc sensor out there?

Probably the A6400's 24MP sensor. Even though it is practically the same sensor as the older A6300/6500's. The 24MP sensor in the Ricoh GR III may also be pretty new.

Nikon has some recent 24MP (eg D3500 from 2018) and 21MP ones too (D7500, D500), but the 21MP's may be Nikon customizations rather than the off-the-shelf Sony sensor's Pentax would probably use.

It's a quad 24MP folding sensor that delivers an effective 96MP

Sounds very modern. I like it.

Integrating more of the incredibly powerful tech that is becoming commonplace in the mobile phone world into DSLR's is long overdue, and it's a trend Pentax isn't alone in ignoring.

Huawei (or Samsung, again) should get together with Ricoh and do something amazing for the next Pentax DSLR's.

I've got a Huawei that is supposed to deliver DSLR like images, but the images weren't convincing, I still use my K1 for photogrpahy, I use the Huawei to snap some documents for sending over. The grass is greener elsewhere including with mobile phone, until it's not.

Sony and Nikon make up your needs, even if you don't need them.

It's a classic story. Even if I don't have needs, it's the job of marketing to invent them.

You can get DSLR like images with your Huawei, the same way Huawei does: use a DSLR then lie about those images being made with the phone.
You have the first part right already

Sony has a new high speed 36MP sensor, it would be nice to see the K1 use this one. However I suspect users would demand more resolution.

Not me, I'd like a faster frame rate and bigger buffer. Most of my images these days are reduced to 3840x2160 for viewing on my 4k TV. Even 36 MP is overkill. If you need more MP there's the 645z.

I've often said Pentax should have walked the same path as Sony and Nikon when they introduced their FF - introduce both 24MP and 36MP models (D600/D800, A7/A7R etc).

I personally would have been perfectly happy with a 24MP K-1. 24MP and pixel-shift would still do amazing things, if needed, and meanwhile you'd probably get better buffer, snappier performance overall, and my poor computer would have an easier time processing the images.

36 MP is good more is not needed. But 24 is not bad either for more quick camera. But for me 36 is sweet spot. K-1 is most of time quick enough. Little more quick, but quite a bit faster AF and perhaps video 25/30 4K with 60 p with atleast 100mb/s transfer rate, and I would be more than happy. Even with out video improvement I would be happy.

I'm not into full frame and I'm still waiting what would be the next APSC camera. Not that I need one but, I would like to see what's next in the APSC line.

that might be needed anyway when the long-awaited K-3ii replacement uses the 'accelerator'.

Nikon users keep asking for a D750 followup - another 24mp FF camera - mainly because of the low-noise advantage they get from that camera.

I would think that a 24mp FF camera would be advantageous for Pentax because it could share components after the sensor with the K-3ii / KP.
