I tend to disagree. I chose Pentax for their dedication to DSLRs, something they've repeatedly emphasized in recent interviews. I really don't need patronage on my choice, especially not in a forum dedicated to exactly this producer of DSLRs. If one of you is happy with his Sony, enjoy, you may tell it once, but after the third thread that is getting derailed because someone feels the need to be such a good person to tell all others what they are missing in his opinion it is getting an annoyance. I'm able to find this and much more information if I want, no need to push it, especially with some pathetic view of "wanting to make the brand better". Thanks for the understanding.
No one has ever complained about someone talking about their Q, or even me talking about my Pentax XG-1 ( with it's EVF.) What is truly annoying is all those going on about things as if nobody but them knows a darn thing. I own a mirrorless, I own an EVF, and I owned a K-01, I've handled other brands in stores. I don't need anyone to tell me about the advantages of mirrorless in threads about Pentax gear. I can find all the information I need without their help. And using a Pentax EVF, I actually know stuff relevant to Pentax's implementation of an EVF that they don't.

If the thread is about Pentax and how to get the most out of it, discussion of Mirrorless is simply inappropriate. People need to learn some manners.

I sense much sarcasm here.

I will say that I have no problem hearing from folks who like EVFs, even if I get eye strain from them. It is pretty clear that Pentax isn't interested in either a new mount or a mirrorless design. It is just as clear that for Pentax to have an MILC that has anywhere near the level of performance that is expected today it would take a huge investment on their part. There is an supposition that underlies a lot of the "mirrorless are awesome" statements that all it takes are PDAF points on the sensor and Pentax ends up with cutting edge auto focus performance, at least on the level of an A7 III. I don't really buy that a mediocre performing Pentax would be successful in the marketplace, but I guess thought differ.

What doesn't change is that these discussion are always less than productive. MILC proponents and SLR fans aren't ever going to agree and furthermore, people who love either EVFs or OVFs aren't going to agree on which is better. Unfortunately, these arguments, when they enter a thread, tend to supercede whatever discussion was going on previously and devolve into the same discouraging directions.

Exactly, so if people who don't want to discuss Pentax stay out of the Pentax threads, everything is cool.

We can go to the mirrorless threads when we want to talk mirrorless.

What a novel idea - keep posts relevant to the subforum they're posted in! I wonder why nobody's thought of that

Yep, truly radical, but I'll vote for it anyway

Sorry for intruding, I'll continue on my quest to find discussions not yet devolved into Yet Another Mirrorless Thread.

I love the evangelion Qs, wish they weren't so insanely expensive to get second hand.

Anyways I'd love to see a 26mp KPII with full time pdaf in live view with any lens. That'd be sick.

Higher bitrate and higher resolution video would also be nice (with more codec options) but I won't hold my breath. Seems a shame they wouldn't take advantage of it though given how good the accelerator chip does in video, easily crushing other options at high ISO.

Is a price around 1700 - 2000 $ OK for an upper APS-C class than K-3 ll line?

You'd have to offer some insane specs for a price like that to be acceptable on an APSC camera.

and that price was over 2 years ago. Yes new tech upgrades 6 months in cost a lot. For the new top of the line will still cost a lot but for a new k3+ to be better than the k3ii doesn't have to be today's top of the line.

Those are street prices, not RRPs at launch.

Some launch prices:
  • Canon EOS 7D Mark II (2014): $1,799
  • Nikon D500 (2016): $1,999.95
  • Fujifilm X-T2 (2016): $1,599.95
  • Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II (2016): $1,999.99
  • Fujifilm X-H1 (2018): $1,899.95
  • Olympus OM-D E-M1X (2019): $2,999.99

I would think 1700 would be a reasonable launch price followed by a quick decline to 1400-1500. Remember that the KP launched at 1100 dollars and has fallen as low as 700 dollars in the intervening months. Launch price and street prices are two very different things as Mistral shares in his post.

To me, that sort of launch price would say that Pentax is making a top end APS-C camera with minimal compromise and that's a very good thing for the APS-C shooters among us.

Accumulated inflation over the last ten year for the EU zone was about 15%.
A camera priced 1299 Euros in 2009 should be priced 1495 Euros in 2019.

Accumulated inflation over the last ten year for the US zone was about 20%.
A camera priced $1299 in the USA in 2009 should be priced $1550 in 2019.

The original K1 is currently cheaper (1245 Euros) than a new apsc camera of ten years ago.
