The 14 best new cameras we can?t wait to shoot with in 2019 | Trusted Reviews
Of the 14 new cameras of 2019 only 2 are dslr and neither has been released. The Canon 90d and the Nikon 760. If both of those and Pentax released in the same quarter there should be a huge climb in sales.

There's no hurry. Let see the systems unfold, than take the best out of the bunch. It's testing times for camera makers. Now that the tech is good enough, chances are that second stuff is a good way to same money. Some people want to have the latest tech and sell very good previous models with low shutter count. Being content without the latest models can save a ton a money and still enjoy taking pictures.

Absolutely: I'm in no hurry (years of gaming have taught me that chasing the latest tech is REALLY cost-inefficient) to upgrade. The day I get frustrated with the K7 and chuck it into the ocean* after yet another terrible low-light shot will be the day I upgrade... probably to a K3/KP or maybe K1 Mk1 if they are under 1K by then (they are almost there already, barely used). And that day will probably not come any time soon.

*Which all things considered, might not even kill it.

Yet midrange and high-end DSLRs get even more pummelled than entry-level DSLRs: the drop in DSLR shipments during the first five months of the year is higher in shipment value (minus 44.7 per cent.) than in unit numbers (minus 35.4 per cent.)

Yes, but I assume that to be the fault of Canikon's release schedule: Canon had nothing new high-end since the 5D4 and 6D2 in 2016 or so, and Nikon had the D850 in late 2017 (which probably sold quite a lot in early 2018?), no one else apart from Pentax is makind DSLRs and Pentax basically doesn't affect CIPA numbers.

That plus the increased competition from high-end mirrorless cameras since Canon, Nikon and Panasonic launched a bunch of 24x36 mirrorless cameras in 2018H2 and 2019H1.

Hasselblad, Leica and Phase One but they don't affect CIPA numbers.

Recently released cameras do tend to sell better than ones that have been on the market awhile. Canon and Nikon's MILCs probably haven't sold like they hoped they would, but they probably are doing better than cameras like the 5D Mk IV and D750, which are pretty long in the tooth.

But everything is slowing, even mirrorless and there have been enough recent mirrorless releases that that should be holding steady or growing. Otherwise you have a situation where more brands are slicing up a smaller pie. Used to be that it was just Sony, Olympus, Fuji, and Panasonic in that category, but Canon and Nikon are scrapping pretty hard for their share of that market now too.

It seems that both Canon and Nikon's idea with their respective FF mirrorless systems is to crank the quality of their lenses as much as they can and "remind Sony who is boss". The problem is that it means releasing ridiculously expensive lenses, and in the case of Canon their bodies are not really helping* from what I keep seeing.

*In so far as you nitpick and complain that "it's not an A7RIII with the fast fps of an A9". I'm 100% sure the R is perfectly adequate.

What I think Pentax should do......

Make a K-124 fullframe model that is in all other ways the same as the K-1ii, just with a 24mp full frame sensor. Nothing else new in fullframe is needed until early 2021.

Based on the comments at 2019 CP+, I gave up hoping for a new camera body from Pentax before Autumn.

That's what I was expecting for the K1 mark II (including AF tracking improvement that they did on the actual K1 II). At least we know that the K1 shutter / mirror can work at 6.6 FPS, and the K3 imaging pipeline is capable of processing 24Mp at 8.3 FPS. In a K1-24Mp version, get rid of pixel shift (or leave it as is , if removing it require effort), add focus bracketing for macros. IMO, the current K1 II model came too early and without enough value for users to appreciate.

Honestly, if they make a K-1 Mk 1.5 with lower resolution while keeping the dynamic range and high-ISO performance, slightly faster shooting speed and some AF improvements, they'll have a great performer for 90% of people. And they might be able to squeeze the prize down even more. Maybe use the 645Z's screen instead of the cradle one, might be easier/cheaper to build? If they get a 999€ full frame camera on their hands, that would be amazing.
